You do wonder about the naivety of city sometimes though. How can the following work out well for city?
It is believed Perez will hold the chairman's role in the new league's structure, with Liverpool's John W. Henry, Joel Glazer of Manchester United and Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke as vice-chairmen.

Andrea Agnelli, chairman of Juventus, and believed until now to be an ally of UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin will occupy the fourth vice-chairman role.

What could possibly go wrong?....

I do think people are overreacting when they talk about it obliterating 100 years of football.

It's essentially just an attempt to go back to the early days of the CL when it was invitation only.

There's about 140 professional clubs in the country and 4 play in the Champions League. 8 have hopes of getting in the CL.

It's not good for the game by any means, but for 99% of professional clubs in this country it won't change anything.
It will if the breakaway clubs are no longer in their domestic leagues. Are Sky going to pay £3bn or whatever it is for a league without the big 6 in it? What do the remaining clubs do when they’re getting £10m a season instead of £150m?

I guess it all boils down to whether you believe the PL are bluffing when they say they'll force teams out rather than allow them to play both.

Yeah but that won't happen.

Be rational, the big clubs aren't going to abandon the majority of their money and games for what is a CL replacement.

Their aim is binning the CL for their own closed European tournament. If that's not how it shapes up, they'll abandon it.

If this goes ahead, surely that's the end of the champion's league.
Not much prestige if bayern and psg are the only decent teams in it.

Poll added, hopefully so somebody at City can see how the fans feel about this.

Based on this being true. I think the club would already be aware of the fans position, but the bottom line is would leaving give them more money and exposure.
Historically when gate revenue was a significant proportion of income, keeping the fans on side was a prerequisite, but now its a global game, tv subscriptions from abroad would offset any financial cost of losing the support of say Bob from Gorton.

History can be swept away.

To be fair, I recall similar outrage when the Premier League was being formed, accusations of greed and the killing of traditions.

City may have no option but to cover all the bases, although I would love to think we have a plan to fuck over the teams in red.

Sadly, Soriano seems far too needy and in love with cosying up to the very people that have tried to fuck us over for years.

I’d rather take our chances sticking on the outside of this,as you just know somewhere down the line they will fuck us over, these are the cnuts that pushed uefa into the CAS court case ..

By the way, franchises almost never move. In any sport here in the US.
Hardly ever.......

The history of the NFL fully incorporates that of the fourth American Football League, which began operation in 1960 with eight teams and became by far the most successful rival to the NFL. In 1966, the two leagues agreed to a merger that took full effect in 1970. All teams from the 1960–1969 AFL were brought intact to the NFL, and the current NFL recognizes all AFL records and statistics as its own.

Only one NHL team that moved has kept its name: the Calgary Flames.

The Edmonton Oilers nearly moved to Houston in 1998, but the team remained in the city after a limited partnership raised enough money to purchase the franchise before the deadline.[9][10] The then-Phoenix Coyotes were placed into bankruptcy with the intent to circumvent the league's relocation rules, but this was blocked by a judge. Other threats to leave came from two of the 1967 expansion teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins (on multiple occasions) and St. Louis Blues (in 1983), but ultimately stayed in their existing markets.

Major League Soccer[edit]

  • 2006: The San Jose Earthquakes moved to Houston and became the Houston Dynamo; however, the team records, logo, colors, championships, and history were left in San Jose. An option for an MLS franchise was awarded to Oakland Athletics owner Lew Wolff in 2006, and the option was exercised in 2007. The Earthquakes resumed play in MLS in 2008 as a continuation of the previous Earthquakes franchise under new ownership.

I’m not arsed about UEFA, I actively dislike them, but I don’t want City to fuck over the long standing traditions of English football. So City need to get their heads around this properly and do the right thing for English football.

UEFA being saved is a side consequence.
Totally agree - all custodians lucky enough to own something within our revered footballing pyramid should be making decisions for the good of the game not just self interest.

And I do mean all owners.......

By far the biggest merit of the NFL model is that it only applies in the NFL. We are culturally different to the U.S.

I agree. But you can’t dismiss the franchise model as anything other than a huge success.

The issue at hand isn’t the merits of a franchise model, it’s as you say, the culture and history aspect of English football is being completely ignored by a bunch of American owners who can’t see past what has worked in America, but never stopped to ask why.
