Daughter’s isolating again after one of her class mates tested positive, second time in as many months. Seems pretty rife in schools at the moment. Feel for her as she’s only got a few weeks left at primary school, so prom/leaver’s assembly etc. all in jeopardy. I know it’s not that important in the scheme of things, but it’s hard for this generation of kids who are missing out on their childhoods.
That is the most important thing right now ahead of pubs opening in full.

it won’t matter much at the moment as they are due to break up but I’m concerned that they are still talking about mass testing in September. It doesn’t look like the problem will go away. It will only lead further to inequality in the education being received.

I agree with the importance of schooling. It’s a tough time for the kids.

Pubs are already open and I wouldn’t close them as it would lead to more house parties, with higher risks of transmission.

I disagree Ric. I think it is that important. I have 3 school age kids who have all suffered mentally through this, and I don’t know what the long term impacts are going to be. We are now beyond the point this has to stop. These are their formative years. They are never getting this time back.

The lockdown brigade would say “no one is suggesting that”.

seriously describing those who want to end restrictions as “anti mask brigade” is just aggressive language along the lines of calling someone “anti-vax” if they argue against giving it to those who don’t need it.
It’s a direct reference to the clamour for scrapping masks and hardly aggressive language. Never worked out what anybody has lost by wearing a mask in enclosed spaces in the hope it protects other people. Smoking indoors was banned to protect other people’s health so why the difference with masks ?

people won’t be arrested for wearing a mask you can still wear them if you want to.

it’s called common sense . If I am on the tram and it’s packed I will probably wear a mask , if it’s reasonably empty I won’t.

they are a pain in the arse if you wear glasses . As soon as you go indoors mask on glasses steam up and social distancing out of the window as I just bump into everything!

The evidence for masks in public is actually quite small, currently we do it because indeed it does no harm. Quite a few studies have been done though which put the odds of catching COVID in a supermarket for example in the region of 1 in tens of thousands or more.

Virtually all COVID cases begin at home, they are brought into a household and then they spread with other contact and you will see the same anecdotes of people who have had it on this forum. Why don't we just change the law to make people wear masks at home? Of course that is a stupid idea but by the same logic as wearing them in public and if they work, why is it stupid?

I wear glasses and know what you mean , gone through a whole range of masks until I found one that doesn’t mist my glasses.

All our set of pcr’s came back at midnight - me and missus both negative, both my kids positive. My lad, who‘s 20, has zero symptoms and was shocked to be told, my daughter is poorly but not too bad.

2 guys who I watched the games with on Tuesday and Saturday have both tested positive after I told them to get tested.
A bit surprised that you've returned a negative test result or have you had Covid previously? If not, guessing it's an example of the vaccines reducing the chances of catching it?

The other half's son has to take 2 Covid tests per week as part of his job and 8 days ago returned a positive result. He'd been in the pub most of that day and was still in there when he got told about the result so god knows how many people he may have inadvertently passed it on to. He didn't have any symptoms at the time but over the next couple of days it totally floored him. He's 29 and never expected to get it bad if he caught it which just shows that who it affects and how badly it affects them isn't an exact science. I'm 51 and overweight, but I got off really lightly when I caught it in January.

Mine are older now, but kids’ milestones are important and can’t be postponed until a later date. My daughter had no 18th celebrations at all, and is now 19. Her A levels were cancelled and she never went to college again after March 2020. I feel for all children and young people who’ve missed so much.

some quote rightly said that they are always at risk and didn’t demand people cover their faces to protect them before covid and shouldn’t after.

The problem with this thought process is that even if every single restriction is removed on 19th of July and we go back to a December 2019 kind of lifestyle, it isn't 'after Covid'.

As in, its not actually gone. Infact it's likely to be as rife as ever with very high case numbers at that point, some people can pretend it's gone and live like it's gone but it's absolutely not, so for others that means they have to proceed with caution.

Then we go back to what's actually being asked for here, it's not that the original poster wants everyone double jabbed before football stadiums can be full, or before household number restrictions are removed, she's simply asking for a period where we continue to wear masks so that she can do the very basic aspects of life in the current situation - go to the shops, use transport to get to where she needs to go, until such times more people are double jabbed and case levels are hopefully under control.

I understand its a risk for her to visit the shops just now even with mask wearing, but really what is the point in increasing that risk and doesn't her request seem fair at all to you?

Yes, I know young people that have missed school leaving proms and events, Graduations from uni. The sort of things that create life long memories. Young people and children have had a hard 2 years. Think it's been far harder for them than myself.

It can take up to 10 days to become positive after exposure. while the virus is reproducing in the body and hits critical mass to be able to either give symptoms or be detected.

This is the mystery as to why I haven’t got it as yet. Both my mates are double jabbed too, one of them no symptoms and one who says he’s started to feel a bit shitty but nothing too bad, and he’s nearly 60. I get the feeling maybe I’ve already had it recently and been asymptomatic, I’ve certainly never been confirmed as having it.
