Would be interesting to know what other alternatives club for him.

English .. home grown.. not big wages ... good replacement for fernadinho if he can play without injuries.

Been watching some interviews and stuff with Kalvin and he also seems like a perfect fit for City in terms of personality.

I expect movement once Jesus move to Arsenal is confirmed. Maybe that's the hold up

Still don't like the idea of spending £60mil, Rodri money, on this guy....hes just not even close to justifying that fee

For around £40mil with add ons I would be ok, but I just don't understand why we've gone after another overpriced and imo overated player from the Prem

It looks about 99% likely he is joining so will support him when he's here as I do all players, but I just can't get behind the logic of this transfer making sense at the prices quoted

Hope to be proven wrong just like i still feel like I have to be proven wrong on Grealish/Ake, neither of which have justified their price tag (yet, although Ake isn't far off)

I hope someone does a Alexis Sanchez, Jorginho, Fred or Maguire on us and gazump our efforts of signing him only for us to sign a far superior player afterwards. A win win.

he`s Pep`s number one choice? Who would you like, Rice for £150m? Who sits on the bench then? Do Rodri & Rice take alternate games which i`m sure would sit well with both of them? I understand people want other players but its not FIFA or FM and the club are backing what the best manager in the world wants? What`s not to say the 3 players you mention wouldnt have been amazing under Pep?

Why would Jesus possibly hold up the transfer that's a replacement for somebody that's already left?

Even though it seems nonsensical, it's been reported by a few (Sam Lee, Pol Ballus etc) that City want to confirm exits first before signing Phillips and Cucurella.

IMO, we shouldn't get hung up on individual fees - a successful business looks at the overall transfer model: what's the budget; what does that player bring and what will the player do for the wider business, outside the field of play.

For example, the last few signings: Haaland 51m; Grealish £100m; Alvarez £15m. We may crow about Grealish but three players for £166m, of that quality and that level of publicity, is really good business, especially when the sales of players are taken into consideration too. We have to also look at the business as a whole, which has grown beyond that of any club in world football over the last decade. Paying £60m for Phillips is a really small part of the overall mix and many people thought we overpaid massively for Rodri - they were wrong.

I don't get the obsession with transfer fees from supporters. There is a LOT more to a transfer than just the fee. Even the structure of payments can play a huge part.

I agree.

But for me a transfersom can only be judged when the player leaves or quit the game, and we can look back at his achievements.

I’d rather we pay 150 mill for Kane to see him being topscorer with 40plus goals for the next 5-6 years and win loads of silverware including a CL, than pay 51 mill for Haaland when he doesn’t even get 15 goals and we win shit all.

Confirmed we’re in talks to sign Tyler Adams from RB Leipzig, looks like he will be the Phillips replacement.
