That will be Phillips’ new agent I assume.

No way he’d consider PSG for a second if we want him.
He might, maybe he dreams of living/working abroard, maybe he went to Paris once and loved the place, maybe he thinks he will start more games there, maybe he hates manchester and lancashire , maybe he thinks it will take less time traveling around europe on holiday if in france, maybe they offer him more incentive financially etc.

Plenty of maybes why if given the choice he could go there instead of us.

Personally if they beat us to his signing, I won't be bothered either way.

Still don't like the idea of spending £60mil, Rodri money, on this guy....hes just not even close to justifying that fee

For around £40mil with add ons I would be ok, but I just don't understand why we've gone after another overpriced and imo overated player from the Prem

It looks about 99% likely he is joining so will support him when he's here as I do all players, but I just can't get behind the logic of this transfer making sense at the prices quoted

Hope to be proven wrong just like i still feel like I have to be proven wrong on Grealish/Ake, neither of which have justified their price tag (yet, although Ake isn't far off)
It’s easy to get hung up on fees, if it’s £60m that’s probably the equivalent of £40-45m 3 years ago such is the extent of inflation in football transfers.

Signing ‘a Rodri’ now would probably be £80m.

I think he will be a solid squad addition fwiw and someone who is likely to up his game as and when he comes.

I don't get the obsession with transfer fees from supporters. There is a LOT more to a transfer than just the fee. Even the structure of payments can play a huge part.
Yep.....the club will pay for a player what THE CLUB think he's worth, not us lot on here.

That’s not true though is it. You pay what he’s worth to the selling club. Was Grealish worth £100m to us? No. But he was worth £100m to Villa, hence the clause set that high - so we paid it.

It's the fans or supporters that pay in the end, personally I'm not bothered because there is nothing I can do but go to the club shop and buy merchandise by any brand that sponsors players, have a look at the cost of football in this country.
It's the fans who end up paying more and more until it's no longer affordable.

I hope so, yes.
this.

there were a few times last season where Rodri was running on fumes as he had played too much, added to Ferns physical decline which meant he wasn't really helping in midfield resulted in Rodders doing too much

if Phillips can take 10-15 starting games off him and also offer a workable option as a sub it will a great signing
Also, if he runs double pivot he can also take games off some of the other players reducing their workload

Our own club thinks he is worth 100m to pay the release clause. transfer wise our club doesn't give a shit what fans thinks.

A theoretical strongest eleven doesn`t exist as well you know.Pep will pick the strongest eleven for each individual game.
100% agree.

It's always horses for courses, based on what the manager feels is needed to beat the opposition. There is always an element risk involved in team selection because you can't always predict how an opposition team will line up against us, or who they have fit. Even the state of the playing surface factors into the equation.

If Rodri had been injured last year we would have won nothing and the scousers the treble.
