Gas & Electricity

Well here down under we have a massive shortage of skilled and unskilled workers, numbers of immigrants is going to be seriously upped very soon the Gov have announced, there are more job vacancies than people on the dole.

So you can all come here :). Yes we do have a public health system called medicare for which we pay 1.5% of our wages.

It's winter here, Darwin today is 31deg... Cairns 28deg...Brisbane is 22deg... Sydney 18deg... Melbourne 16deg... Hobart 14deg so you can see the further south you go the cooler it gets BUT, nobody is freezing their balls off. :)

Plus the state Gov will pay a lot towards your solar panels on your roof, being as there are lots of sunny days you can sell leccy back to the grid !!!
My mate had just come back from a three week trip to Oz, he was telling me Cairns has a Tropical Rainforest so the climate there is always on the warm side even in winter, never heard that before, he has two sons, two brothers and a grandson out there, sounds like they have made the right decision.

We went into work when there was a pandemic. I was scared shitless, mainly because I had once suffered a pneumothorax Nobody then knew how stuff was going to pan out, but we went in.
I did also, I have heart arrhythmia and didn’t know if that would have any implications, I carried on with my small light haulage business and ended up transporting PPE equipment to hospitals and Care Homes, caught Covid twice, really ill. Now having just retired and budgeted for the future with a draw down Pension, Savings, a small share port folio and an inheritance I’m seriously wondering why I’ve retired, the energy prices will really affect my liquid income.

Don’t know mate, never got passed being triaged by the ‘receptionist’…..
Exactly. I've had phone calls from them, but not much more, oh I did have to send a photo of a skin growth, with a reply of "oh, it's probably nothing" the photo was out of focus and poor quality since it was on my hand - had to take it myself, nobody else around at the time. Nevermind, I have life insurance eh?

Cutting costs here and there isn't enough to offset the projected energy costs, thick woman.

It's increasingly becoming obvious that these cunts are so out of touch with reality, that they think we are just a load of whining twats that need to stop moaning and just pay it, like it's a few extra bob.
Absolute despicable individuals.

I wouldn’t say Tory MP John Redwood is panicking, but it sounds like he is starting to think about panicking…

‘I am urging the government to review all ways of increasing domestic output of gas and electricity. This includes extending the safe lives of nuclear stations, extracting more gas from existing fields, and keeping coal generators as reserves.’

Nice try... but train to work is £26 return a day.. energy bills won't even come close to that if i commuted every day

Employees advised to weigh up cost of commute v increased energy bills this winter

Working from home could add an extra £131 a month to energy bills under the new price cap, consumers have warned.
Employees have been advised to weigh up the cost of their commute against the soaring price of energy from 1 October, with those paying less than £30 a week for travel possibly better off going in to the office to save money,

Yeah it's never cold in Cairns mate, full on tropical.

The cynic in me thinks there's a part of this issue designed to get people into offices to improve the lot of business landlords

How much will train fares go up if inflation is at 18%?

Will they have to go up exponentially because the cost to power them will be going up 500% ish in October?

My wife's employer (major insurance company) gave all employees the option of working from home permanently and spent a fair bit in setting it all up.

Then, all employees had to report to the office 1 day per month for meetings with management, team briefs etc. - not unreasonable, although this was previously done (daily) over teams.

From next week, it changes to 1 day per week, then from October/November it's 2 days per week... So we're being hit twice with increased energy costs AND 2 days commuting costs per week.

All down to tax breaks from the government to encourage people into the offices and city centres spending dosh apparently.
