I think it's the only realistic solution. Sure, it kicks the can down the road as you say and no doubt we'll all cop for the cost somewhere down the line but better that than millions of households not being to afford an exponential rise in energy bills, people freezing to death, businesses going bust, and the economy collapsing so I really can't see any other alternative.

Seems a sensible suggestion. Idea is the cap is frozen, probably at current levels and the gov lend to energy retailers to cover any trading losses, thru a fund set up for the purpose. The householders pay the money back thru their bills over 20 years to smooth out the increase in costs and the cos pay the gov back. I assume the fund is set up by gov borrowing rather than taxation.
Truss has hinted that she might go along with this.
 
I don't even own a kettle. Think of all the money I'm going to save!!
My two coffee machines might put paid to that though..

I’d like him to explain how it’s possible to improve the efficiency of a process where electrical energy is converted to heat. What is the energy byproduct that is wasted that could be reduced?

It’s not like going from a tungsten lightbulb to an LED where the saving is all the heat not generated. In a kettle, the heat is what you want.

I suspect he needs to familiarise himself with the first law of thermodynamics.

Working from home this is a good idea.
We shouldn’t be working 40 hours a week to reduce ourselves to doing shit like this, but if it helps….
 
A Michelin-starred restaurant in Dorset has been forced to close with "immediate effect" due to rising costs.

The Fontmell in Shaftesbury, which was listed in the 2022 Michelin guide, explained that supplier costs had increased to such a point that it was "no longer able to pass that cost" onto its customers.

In a message on the pub's Facebook page, the owner revealed that the pub's utilities alone have increased by £58,000 per year.
 
My local has just increased the price of a pint of San Miguel to £5. The 99p a pint days of 1986 are long gone! Inflation since then should have seen it rise to £2.50! Something has gone wrong somewhere along the way!

That's a shame, but looks like it may become a common thing.
After all the struggle through covid as well........ fucking Putin gets you.
