I should think Johnson’s first question was
What’s a kettle?
What’s a kettle?
No, it's not just about insulation. The insulation will reduce the amount of heat that is heating up the ambient air around the kettle (which you don't want to do)The problem with this is that kettles are used to boil water and be used immediately. Having a better insulated kettle will stop the water cooling down as quickly if it isn’t used straight after it boils. Most people boil a kettle to use the water while it’s boiling rather than to store it and use it later.
All an eco kettle does is better control the amount of water boiled, so that less is routinely wasted. Carefully measuring the water you need in a normal kettle would have the same effect.
Quite.I should think Johnson’s first question was

The only way to boil the same amount of water quicker is to put the heat in quicker. The overall heat put in is the same - 4180J/kg/degC.No, it's not just about insulation. Newer kettle's boil the same amount of water a lot quicker than really old one's, again using less electricity.
And anyway besides the newer technology, the heating coil on an old kettle will probably be lime scaled up , slowing down the transfer of heat to the water.
We are a 3 bed semi but we have 2 kids we have asked for a smart meter, they are adamant it's 600 a month, just crazy moneyGet onto a smart meter and pay for what you use, everyone around me has gone from ££200 to £400 or more, our gas and electric in august was £87. That’s a 3 bed semi, but just the two of us and a dog.
I check it everyday, todays cost us £2.24 (we both work from home mostly). We’re with Utility Warehouse
By who?Quite.
It's not him advising these thing's, he just a performing monkey being told what to say.
Just shut down my Aquariums after nearly 10 years, a sad event but one that is likely to save me a lot of money in the next few months and years.
is that because your on DD spreading an estimated payment over the year, i'm the same as the other poster, 3 bed bungalow with 4 adults, pay Eon per month with a smart meter and last months gas was £27, elec was £59, im expecting sept account to be cheaper as ive started turning TVs off etcWe are a 3 bed semi but we have 2 kids we have asked for a smart meter, they are adamant it's 600 a month, just crazy money
I had 5 tanks lol I dread to think what these would cost in 6 months time, like I say, a little sad, had some of the fish from the start but the choice between having a life and affording stuff or sitting in the house watching fish instead isn't much of a choice really.I used to run a marine tank and frankly, I’m so glad I no longer do as the cost would be eye watering.
£87 sounds good on the face of it but a note of caution that what you paid for your energy in August will be based on rates related to the old price cap and not the new one which is effective from October 1st. Also, we use far less gas in the summer months as the heating is rarely on or not on at all. We should be using less electricity too due to the long days and lights not being on as much. Those people you know who have seen their bills double will probably be down to the new price cap coming in next month. And it’s coming in just at a time when we’re all entering those months of the year where our energy usage increases dramatically so it’ll be a double whammy.Get onto a smart meter and pay for what you use, everyone around me has gone from ££200 to £400 or more, our gas and electric in august was £87. basically work has said they can sustain the monthly bills as it is at £1600 per month but when it goes up in October then thats it we will be out of work
EDF only bill twice a year! I’ve had a smart meter installed by then in June only the gas bit has ever worked, I give them a reading every month now they are bloody useless, I will only be paying for what I use I can work it out myself easily now.I’ve been on a smart meter with EDF for several months now but I’ve had my DD increased to £211 a month and I’m sat with a £670 credit as I type with the next bill due 23rd September according to the app.
Why am I not being billed monthly? I can see from the meter I am currently using about £25 a month gas and about £125 a month electricity, mainly due to an electric cooker which has made us now switch to one of these ninja smart cooker machines so hopefully that will save us money.

This is why we don’t talk about the first law of thermodynamics. No fucker understands it.There is no wasted electrical energy, only electrical energy saved, not used. (You bill will be less)
You alluded to the first law of thermodynamics.

When making energy more efficient we really need to look at the 2nd law of Thermodynamics. And how heat always transfers to cold, efficiency is gained by slowing down that transference. This is why it's a great idea to heavily insulate you home, to retain the heat your energy (heating system) has produced. (Unless you want to heat the street :))
If we want a bigger difference between Q and W (above) we need to slow down the DeltaU.
Put simply, we can use less energy with the same results through technology. Boris is correct about the new eco kettles.
I think we can still apply for the moneyThe reality of the DD is that we are used as their cash flow and in normal times I’d be fine with that but we are anything but in normal times I’m afraid.
OFGEM should immediately put a stop to the scam that is the DD discount so we have the choice to pay for what we use without further financial penalty.
hope your right mate, its a ticking time bomb, not just domestic bills, if nothing changes then its going to be riots, mass unemployment, and debts racking upMore and more convinced the plan of government backed state loans meaning our bills are frozen for at least 2 years will happen, hopefully saving your job and those of millions of others.
