Fulham (H) | PL | Post-Match

Referee was shocking throughout the game,I noted that he was keen to apply the rules regarding the penalty/red card against us.He didn't seem as zealous when applying the rules for multiple other incidents.
I would like an explanation from Old Mother Riley as to how a player can receive a booking for off-pitch dead-ball removal of shirt and no card for the most blatant time wasting by a goalkeeper since the last keeper turned up at The Etihad. Refs are ripping a pocket off to get the card out and all they do for timewasting is stand looking and impersonating Pontius Pilate.

Shoving a player in the back isn’t trying to get the ball.

If he’d dived in and just missed the ball and taken Wilson out, he’d have got a yellow card.

As it was, he didn’t move his feet to attempt to get the ball, fouled Wilson and got sent off for it.

It‘s a textbook example of a DOGSO penalty and red card.

He was trying to shoulder charge and got it wrong but that doesn't really count as an "attempt to play the ball" although it could be construed as an attempt to win the ball. However, as the laws are written, it's a sending off offence. I think the differentiation is a little harsh though but Joao should have known better. As Pep has said, it's a chance for everyone in the team to learn.

If he gets a three match ban for that, that would be very harsh.

Ederson has only saved 3 premier league penalties in just over 5 years
It’s as though we don’t train for penalties, we struggle to score them and can’t stop them. its poor for a team of our quality.
Though Eddie is good at choosing to dive the wrong way.

Grealish wasn't that bad yesterday,it would be helpful for him to have a more defensively competent left back behind him, imo.
Grealish is rarely bad but he's not pulling up trees and that's what people are expecting. TBH, I wish he could just be quietly left to go about his business: there's too much spotlight on him individually (as there is players in general) when the collective outcome is most important. It's the world we live in though.

Personally I would be delighted if Maddison gets the nod by Southgate and Jack is left behind. It would be a tremendous motivator for the lad to improve.

Nobody has ever told us that they went home and put their tea in the oven on a post match thread before? It was bound to happen one day and awaken the sleepers :-)
Granted I'm a stupid American, but what is putting tea in the oven? Never heard of it. A euphemism?

He felt nerves? What about us mere plebs then? I was shitting bricks waiting for him to take the penalty. "Pretty please, with sugar on top, don't fucking miss it!"
My heart was going mental - like it was a cup final

It’s a one game ban, like all non violent red cards are.

Dont wish to sound all Fordy about it, but Cancelo doesnt seem the 'learning' type to me anyway. He is prone to doing continued silly things like that. Great skill, lovely attacking player, so not having a full pop. Just seems a defensive brain fart waiting to happen
Nah, not having he’s not a learner, he’s reached the pinnacle of football, you can’t do that without learning a thing or two, you don’t have to be a physicist to be a footballer but you do have to have the right mentality, and he has it in bucket loads. Imagine being a winger, converted to a fullback/wingback, who has to act like a central midfielder, and be one of your teams main provider, then find yourself covering your centre half, that’s a lot of mental gymnastics. Pep demands a lot from his players, and I’d say his expectations of Joao are very very high (quite rightly) you’re right about the brain farts though, but in mitigation he’s played too much football

Can anyone explain why I always hear a scouse voice commentating on our game ? I mean always even on the Chinese shows ffs
It doesn't matter where in the world you are, there'll always be (at least one of) a scouser, a Glaswegian or a cockernee giving their opinion.
