Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

Can we talk about this image. We have just won a game in the 95th minute which could be huge for our title race and this is what the North Stand looks like...

Put your phones away - enjoy the moment!

All of us on the thread aren't the problem, it's the indifference of a huge chunk of our match-day support who are.

I'm going to open the can of worms and say - if we were shooting towards the South Stand in the second half, this image would be 10x better because there would be real passion/scenes/limbs rather than tourists filiming it for their isntagram account!

A lot of other clubs fans sing about their old players, we’re no different. Our fans still feel a lot of affection for the players that won us our first trophy in 34 years, our first PL title, and subsequent PL titles and trophies.

Bar any mistakes or missing any players out.

Ederson - Chant.
Cancelo - no chant.
Walker - no chant.
Stones - chant.
Dias - chant.
La Porte - chant.
Akanji - no chant.
Ake - no proper chant.
Gomez - no chant.

Foden - no proper chant.
KDB - chant.
ilkay - chant.
Rodri - chant.
Mahrez - chant.
Silva - chant.
Grealish - chant.
Phillips - no chant.

Haaland - chant.
Alvarez - no proper chant.

The rest - no chants.

5 players have no chants.
3 players have no proper chants.
11 players have chants.

We have a full team of player who have chants.

Are there any other fans in the PL who sing about their players more that we do? No there aren't! Maybe United fans come close. No other fans do.

What we need to do is get the chants going for Foden, Ake and Alvarez.

And make up chants for the other 5 players who don't have chants. Especially Cancelo and Walker, our long-term fullbacks.

The next time you attend a game, watch the South Stand when we get a corner. I'd argue 90% of the time we start off that 'City' chant.

We do it. No matter what people want you to believe we don't only sing about Edin Dzeko (that song isn't even about him either, it's about us winning the Premier League against our second most hated club).
True mate. Also, Dzeko seems to be somebody who epitomises traditional City. He’s had the same hairstyle since he was 9 and doesn’t give a fcuk. The people who don’t rate him need to get over it or just focus on the piss taking out of the Scousers focus of the chant.

think we have the whole of lower SS weds ?

this should make the atmosphere better but the fans that end up in the away end usually kill it. Be funny seeing fans sat down in an actual safestand area !
Wolves were sat down the entire match in the safe standing to our right

It won't Trev.

The SSL1 away end will be full of families sitting down, like before.

Not having a pop at them because families and new City fans are always welcome, but they don't stand up or sing.

If the SSL1 away end would was full of young City lads standing and singing, that would be great. 110, 111, SSL1 away end and SSL1 all singing together. Boom!

It was one of the first things I noticed too alongside the unbridled joy of Erling. Didn't help that it was a penalty so everybody was prepared. I was in the South Stand and there were people with their phone out too- not to this extent admittedly but it would have been worse if the penalty was facing us. Don't get it myself. I was too busy jumping on people after being urged by the row behind to turn around and watch the penalty being taken after our abysmal record in them. Only time I've had my phone out this season during a game was taking a picture of the scoreboard when we were 6-1 up against the rags.

"Why the fuck "
"Why the fuck "
"Why the fuck are you sat down?"
"Why the fuck are you sat down?"

Pretty much what i thought as well

Yes that was sung last time.

I felt sorry for the families including young City fans. That was out of order. It didn't ender those families, kids and new City fans to our vocal support in SSL1.

I hope if that starts again on Wednesday it gets shouted down straightaway.

It's the same at every ground. It's now part and parcel of (PL) football.

You maybe surprised on Wednesday, SS3 is full of Chelsea and i've been moved down near enough directly below my SS3 seat to SS1.

If the same happens to others we could have a right racket going on.

Will be interesting to hear how much noise the Chelsea fans make with the one song they have. That new roof on SSL3 for me was the logical place to have a singing section. We went for Level 1 instead but it doesn't send the noise upwards and around the bowl. Will see how things go having noise from above taking on our own support in SSL1.

Chelsea fans were sh*te today against Arsenal in the London derby.
Villa fans were good today against United.
Spurs fans were good and bad today against Liverpool.
There is no one fits all to (creating) a good atmosphere.

The Rome derby between Roma and Lazio today was very good.
Both sets of fans sang throughout the match. Especially the Roma fans. The whole stadium. At the final whistle the Lazio team including the subs went over to the Curva North housing 18,000 Lazio fans and celebrated the 0-1 win against Roma with them.
I'll wait with bated breath for the inevitable video

I’m sure there are versions of rail seating where the seats can be locked in their upright position so that you can’t sit down. Then let it be known that if you buy a ticket in a standing area you will be standing, so if you want to sit, buy a ticket elsewhere.

Also a lot of these chants are not inspiring at all. Some one has just posted a video of the South Stand chanting ‘City’ at Pep and you can envisage how at a corner or when attacking how inspiring this could be. Who could possibly be inspired by chanting about Edin Dzeko who left 6 years ago?

Some chants are best left in the pub and on the concourse and stuck on instagram, fun to sing, but once your in the ground the point of singing is to inspire your team.
I don’t mind the ‘Edin Džeko’ part of that chant.

It’s the beginning of that chant that doesn’t make any sense being sung when we’re trying to win a tight game. Singing about Liverpool players and ‘Scousers’ isn’t going to rouse the rabble and get the team going.

That video of the fans chanting Ci-ty Ci-ty Ci-ty is class! If that was belted out as we build an attack (like it was a few times on Saturday in the second half), it gets everyone going instead of a half hearted ‘Gerrard slipped’ for the fourth time.

It was so much better on Saturday when we ditched all that non-City chanting when we really needed the crowd to get behind the team… and it’s clear as day the team fucking loved it with the way they went round the stadium at the end.
