2022 World Cup Discussion

This is the epitome of stealing football from the fans. Who can afford beer at £12 a pint, burger and chips at £13?
You ever been to Wembley, or Arsenal or Spurs?
I would hazard a guess that a great deal of fans going to Qatar (certainly to watch England) will be the many thousands of ex pats living in UAE / Saudi and Qatar. So those prices wont be an issue to them.

Agreed the prices at the above grounds are expensive but there are options both before and after the game, in Quatar not so much.

I am trying with much difficulty to get in to the spirit of the World Cup.

A month of Football coming up. I should be excited.

Yet i am not....It is not helping the event is happening in the Western Hemisphere Autumn, with cold dark early nights and shit loads of rain.

You read the Western MSM Papers etc. And they are slaughtering Qatar at every opportunity.

Sure there are valid concerns over abuses going on in Qatar.

You can not help feeling though. Is it really all about the deaths of construction workers, human rights abuses etc. Or is this just being used as the excuse to demonize a whole country and ruin the Football carnival before it even begins. A bit like the shit our brown skinned owners get on a regular basis. Yet white American owners get a free pass for operating the same way.

I wish we would keep politics and Sport separate.

Demonizing the Majority for the actions of a political minority.

Football should be used to unite and build bridges.

Not be politicised to condemn and divide.
With you in sprit, but if sport and politics were separated, then Russia and Qatar would never have been awarded the WC in the first place. FIFA and their competition deserve all they are getting . Will take a generation for people to let this go.

Mr.Lineker the king of woke, master of all human rights, out there in the land of no human rights basically sponsoring it, despite all his deflecting bullshit.

I heard on Aussie TV yesterday complete outrage about human rights, no not about aboriginal deaths in custody but Qatar getting the World Cup. Selective outrage made me think if anyone has suggested doing anything for families who have lost loved ones building the stadiums.

I’ll be honest, I don’t know what to believe. Has there been thousands of deaths or is it grossly exaggerated / lies.

If it’s true then rather than stamping your feet in between courses of hospitality shouldn’t the media & advertisers & everyone making money off this event donate to the victims of whom I know not 1 single name or story.

You can very legally drink in Qatar at tens if not hundreds of bars and nightclubs and people get just as drunk as they do in the U.K. or Marbella or anywhere.

It’s also illegal to be publicly drunk in the U.K. don’t forget.
Ah, never been to Qatar. Thanks. I thought the UK law had been updated and plain drunkenness was no longer a crime: long time since I did any lawyering tho’.

Honestly, I was there nearly ten years. The majority of my social circle were in their 20’s and 30’s and heavy weekend drinkers, no one ever got into trouble for being drunk and a great many taxi drivers had to pull over to let people be sick.

Qatar has lost my support with its latest u-turn but people need to take a lot of what the media portray with a huge mountain of salt.

This is the epitome of stealing football from the fans. Who can afford the ridiculous hotel prices, beer at £12 a pint, burger and chips at £13? All the be consumed within what looks like a big car park with very little shade. Apart from Doha there is little else that is of interest to the average fan. The game is gone forever.
sounds like a trip to wembley ;-)

Some impressive stadiums for this WC.
What is that stadium called "Bed Pan Arena"

Your frustration is understandable, but if people would not pay these prices they would come down. It’s business.

Does anyone know of anyone actually going to this world cup? If so in what capacity? As an actual "Joe Public" supporter,or on a corporate jolly?
I know of two people who turned down the chance of going on corporate events, simply because they didn't want to be seen supporting the event.

The hypocrites who have been telling me how much they despise the World Cup in Qatar are now arriving there in droves. Gary Lineker the latest.
To stay in a five star hotel built by immigrants and report on matches in stadiums built by immigrants, while receiving a fortune for it.

If you look on the official England tour websites most of the packages have been sold out for months so there's definitely going to be a few thousand England fans going. Don't forget there's thousands of ex-pats living in the middle east so I would imagine a lot of them would be going.

Shit load of Welsh fans are on their way as well as I read a couple of weeks ago The Welsh fa sold out their packages

Everyone is righteous until the right money is on the table

Did Gary Lineker ever house a refugee in the end like he said? Course not.

Gary Neville’s reasoning is “it’s better to be out there and spread awareness than sat at home” - ok Gaz, fair enough, so go out there and spread the important message, but refuse to accept a penny for doing so, that’s the right thing to do if your morals are in the place you always portray. I’d respect it if he did that. Will he? Absolutely not.

The truth is, I don’t care if people go out there and get paid. We all own stuff made in terrible conditions and what not. They should just be honest about it, they’re going for the dough and they don’t really care as much about the other stuff they preach about.

I prefer Beckham’s recent shameless approach rather than Neville talking out the side of his mouth about human rights while lining his pockets.

They have told us that taking a knee and wearing rainbow laces will make the world sit up and think, whilst at the same time giving the event to a country who on the face of it couldn't give a fuck about human rights or so they say.

That being said, people will get involved and will get carried away after it kicks off, there will be the usual anti-English bile thrown about when the waistcoat gets England through to the semis before they get knocked out by a 2nd rate unfancied team.
I like your optimism, semis? Group more like
