2022 World Cup Discussion

Yeah it’s tax free and the wages are good but the expenses are also huge. You can’t own property in the main there and so every rents.

The rent costs are through the roof, living on The Pearl in a 2 bed apartment used to cost us north of £4k per month and our green fees at Doha GC was $1,000 per month for the Championship Course (ie full membership with a couples discount).

So despite the high pay and zero tax, the disposable income left for most people isn’t that much higher than it would be in a European capital. A head of Iceburg lettuce will set you back £5, beer £11-12, Hellmans mayo £5 etc etc, but petrol is cheap.
I’m guessing I’d underestimated the golf fees at £300 per month!

Gotta laugh at this thread which has alarming similarities to the City thread on RAWK.
85 pages of posters saying they don’t care about the World Cup.
And no I’m not being serious :-)

I think those fans who think will get tanked up in hotels before games will be in for a shock. Hotels are absolutely milking this, and most popular ones have built significant booking fees into the bars. For instance Marriott hotel developed 4 fan zones around its ‘bars’ where a party of 10 can book a 3 hour slot around a particular group game, fee 200QR (£45 approx) per person. Get 3 drinks with it off a list. ‘Bar’ is outdoor area converted. Not sure what main bar, Champs, is charging. Prices to rise for knockouts.
No where else to go once game over to drink unless head to main AlBidda fan zone

They're saying they're not supportive of it and consequently not overly interested in the outcome. It's more nuanced.

Have they put the fanzone up in Al Bidda Park?

I don’t think this is a decision just made, all the sponsorship boards on display have Budweiser zero as the sponsor.
It was mate. They agreed with FIFA not to advertise alcohol in the stadia but they were still going to serve. It’s a complete uturn in the last two days. One of my clients is high up on the 22 Supreme Committee and he’s throwing a shit fit. It wasn’t their decision, it’s direct from Al Thani.

It’ll be a bit like the CL, I reckon. Lots of moaning in the group stages whilst the shitter teams get knocked out and then pique peoples’ interests when the knockout stages begin.

I'm waiting for the people in rainbow thongs and tassels gluing themselves to the goalposts because the Qataris aren't selling mint daiquiris at half time.
