Etihad Atmosphere - 2022/23

Why not just be in the cup scheme? I appreciated it can be a financial decision for some but not the lads i go with who dip out because they cant be bothered with the league stages. Cant then moan that its a hassle getting a ticket for one of the biggest games in the clubs history.

The group stages are the slog for the big games. Just like supporting city through years of shit was the slog for the current success

Went to all the home group games didn't get close to getting a ticket for last night.

Unless the club announce the introduction of some criteria for the bigger matches next year I won't be repeating the exercise.

Spot on. Was at the game last night and it was superb. BT have been on a mission to play down anything involving City for years. Their cameras don’t suddenly react to a goal and randomly pick out a section of celebrating fans. They are deliberately pointed at fans that they think are tame. Maybe to avoid showing any unwanted gestures but more likely to try and portray City as a plastic club with plastic fans.

Anyway, fuck em, we’re off to Istanbul (again).

I don’t agree mate. The sales criteria was different for the Bayern game and plenty of other games. You had to have a previous history of attending games to get tickets.

Plenty of people went to every champions league game and couldn’t get a ticket, yet people who are Madrid fans/ there for a day out had the same chance at a ticket. All they had to do was buy a citizen membership. I don’t think that’s fair
i agree past cl game attendance shouldve counted

I should think everyone loved it last night, and I’m sure you know perfectly well what a tourist looks like. Doesn’t make his point any less valid. There must have been thousands of other Blues who’d like to have enjoyed it as well, but couldn’t get tickets, because half the ground was full of day trippers. I’ve genuinely never seen anything like it at the Etihad last night. Walked around the ground before kick off, got asked for directions half a dozen times and witnessed Madrid fans, shirts on full display, queuing at every turnstile.
That was one of the biggest and greatest games we’ve ever had at City and, whilst the atmosphere was excellent, it’s a pity that more long term City fans didn’t get the opportunity to enjoy it

I think it was a great atmosphere looking back at is however not sure if true but i think i saw a few empty seats around 209/210 last night. if my thoughts were true then this exemplifies how bad the ticketing fiasco actually was

You “think”? Ah ok, turn it into a negative why don’t you

I just don’t understand why some fans aren’t celebrating without trying to find fault

Great atmosphere last night.

There was a young Chines couple sat next to me last night. They kept quiet for most of the game so I asked them if they were Madrid fans. They said they didn’t follow a European team and were just there to watch a good game. I had them doing the Poznan and standing up chanting City.

It’s not the tourists’ fault that the ticketing arrangement were a shambles. I welcome anyone who gets behind the Blues

Normally in 217 but could only get a seat in 330 with the ticket fiasco

Completely different feel up there, but generally thought the atmosphere was fantastic. I don’t think it’s the best but I don’t remember so many fans staying as long as they did, afterwards

Dont think anyone who was there last night has grounds to complain about it imo

KO 2 lads sat in their seats, 6 minutes into game disappeared. Think watched game on concourse drinking. came back briefly for second half, after falling into row below they disappeared again. So their seats were empty but not empty if you know what I mean.

What a fucking night!

There was a lot of tourists yes. They definitely helped in staying till the end, I'm not sure they added much to the atmosphere in terms of noise.

I think we need to distinguish between straight up tourists that wear half n halfs, take selfies and come as a one off, and the fringe fans that just don't have SCs but come to a lot of CL and cup games. I think those fans are really adding to our atmosphere as has been seen in the Champions League this season.

Fringe Fans is a good term.

From now on adding it to the vocabulary along with Legacy Fans, Plastics, Clappers etc.
