PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I think this is unlikely to have come from the PL investigation not least because it only damages their case. I supect it has been a fishing expedition by Matt Lawton who no doubt spoke to Nick MCgeehan an an attempt to find some sort of angle on City during "the silly season" when there is not much news around. The youtube video is essentially a fake news story designed to damage City but personally I don't think that even someone as stupid as Richard Masters would have been involved. On the other hand it makes The Times look stupid for running a three-year-old story as a new one. They already got their fingers burned during the UEFA investigation when they ran some leaks which turned out to be false.

Weird thing to put out then.

Yes I was pleasantly surprised by both Dein and Oakshot. Lawton is a prize knob.
Fwiw agree with DD RE time wasting and penalties.

That mp was useless, City voted for an independent regulator.
The MP was just the "rent-a-quote." I suspect he hasn't even seen the story as his comments were very general. Dein was great describing it as "something and nothing" and stressing three times that City were "innocent till proven guilty." It was powerful stuff from a former Arsenal Director.
Oakeshott was also great and very dismissive of the whole concept of "sportswashing" pointing out that 40 per cent of the UK arms industry depended on Saudi and the country itself was diversifying its economic activity into new areas, including sport. I honestly think this false "sportswashing" myth is dying out. It is obvious that Sheikh Mansour and the Saudis are in sport to make money knowing full well that it will also do no harm for their image and it is nothing to do with "human rights."

It is strange. I don't know why the Times would want to be associated with such a weak and poorly-sourced story. I can only assume that Matt Lawton is stupid or has questionable motives. You do wonder about the quality control on the Times Sportsdesk. It wouldn't take long to find the earlier story on Google. Perhaps it was just incompetence.

I think they started the investigation in 2018 so they can go back to 2012,I may be wrong

I would assume they can go back 5 years from the point they make the charge not open the investigation.

However PL rules maybe different to others.

Ultimately it’s not going to court but to a PL independent panel (I can tell you now no panel is independent if they are being paid by one of the parties, not suggesting foul play but that they will likely start with the PL statement of case as the facts with City having to disprove (making it an uphill battle)).

I think they are likely to accept it and explore it.

They will stick us with something but UEFA was the one. Very good chance what we alleged did, if we did was to get through UEFA FFP, Prem FFP we would be a lot more likely to pass anyway.

They're owned by NewsCorp. When the fuck have they ever cared about credibility?

“Sportswashing” is IMO a load of shite. The people who complain about it (the media) are the main ones who push the narrative that it exists. Here’s a thought…if you don’t like these regimes using sport to clean their image…stop fucking promoting it in your papers. Using us as an example, if they hadn’t been calling us “Oil Club City”, “Abu Dhabi FC” or “State-owned” for the past decade, nobody would give a toss who we were owned by. People like Harris, Delaney etc have built a career off City and our owners apparent sportswashing. Mansour isn’t benefitting from this, they are. Sportswashing is news not because these guys have a high moral compass. It’s news because it makes them money. What heroes they are.

I’m so fucking bored and drained of reading this nonsense I can’t bring myself to care about it anymore. It’ll take years anyway. What’ll be will be

Mike Keegan and the Daily United shit stirring again.

According to a 2020 UEFA report obtained by the makers of a YouTube film, the Treble winners took two £15m payments from an Abu Dhabi-based individual in 2012 and 2013, sums that should have come from a club sponsor.

UEFA's financial control body concluded that the payments, meant to have arrived from UAE-owned telecoms firm Etisalat, were actually 'disguised equity funding'. It alleged the money actually came from City's Abu Dhabi-based owners, which was a breach of their rules.

Or why they wouldn’t put Martin Samuel up, chief football correspondent of The Times. Maybe because he’d mKe Lawton look like the prick he is and that might make for a difficult staff room……

That was our defence to it. It didn’t get adjudicated upon though.
Interesting that UEFA didn't even present transactional evidence to contradict MCFC, ADUG, E&Y, or Etisalat. Moreover, they didn't even allege anything improper about the source of Etisalat's funding.

This really doesn't get off the ground at all. Good luck to the PL trying to attack Etisalat's operational activity.

Who makes a fucking film then keep their identities secret, apart from nonces?
The irony of a film accusing City of using a mysterious hidden investor, made by mysterious hidden producers, is too glorious and hilarious for words
McGeehan’s involvement pretty much rules out Qatar and points to Americans and the WhatsApp group

Investors must come to the UK now and think it’s being run by Monty Python.

I look at that show and feel so sorry for Khaldoon having to deal with this level of incompetence which, by the way, some will believe is true.

What has happened to this country? I know the World is a crazy place with social media but we must be near the top of the tree when it comes to stupidity now. It’s like we are actively trying to ruin ourselves.

Such a new revelation that it was in the Guardian in 2020 and was part of the UEFA evidence which was dismissed by CAS. You would think Keegan would have checked on Google and phoned up David Conn.
