Dangerous Dogs

Something I don't understand is the rspca and other pet protection societies say its no use banning the breed as it doesn't cut the attacks.

Surely it does, if we cut down on all dangerous and powerful breeds we reduce those attacks at least... I just don't understand their concept here.
They are right that we should focus on the owners, but how do you police that? You cannot have blind faith in people that they will train a dog properly, socialise it with other animals and humans. Some of these humans aren’t even socialised themselves!!

In nearly every fatal case, there is the same response. “It’s not my dog, I was minding it for some bloke on the estate. Can’t remember his name. I didn’t know it didn’t like children. Wasn’t my fault.”

Humans can train bears, lions and tigers. But you wouldn’t trust everyone in the country to have one. This is the same thing. Those dogs are bred to kill. It’s in their nature. And once that switch in their head is flicked, you are toast. It’s a killing machine.

I find this thread very strange, often unfeeling, and judgemental. We are talking about living creatures, and often much loved pets. Responsible dog ownership is not about someone's wealth or the fact they may wear a shell-suit!

A dog that is a danger to the public should obviously be dealt with.
Dogs that are completely innocent should not.
I have no problem with a demand for all dogs on leads in public spaces.

A task force needs to be funded to monitor social media activity around the breeding and selling of dogs. All breeders need to be licensed, income taxed, and assets seized should income and sales be undeclared.

In my opinion, the ban will fail. We will not devote the necessary resources to the problem and kennels right across the nation are already filled to capacity with unwanted lockdown dogs. Unlicensed breeders will simply move to other breeds because there is a demand and profits to be made. Do you really think that former Class A dealers will be arsed about someone declaring a breed of dog illegal?

While any dog can attack, the increase in big dogs like American Bully XL attacks has to be linked to the popularity of these kind of dogs on social media, I never heard of anyone owning one of these kind of dogs now every thick **** seems to be looking to buy one

You can’t judge a dog like the XL Bully as innocent in the same way as a human. Unfortunately they don’t seem to start off with petty crime and work up to deadly mauling behaviour, they go straight to the full blown attack. They should be muzzled and kept on leads in public areas.

The cynic in me agrees with you, no resources will be allocated to prevent even more XL Dogs in the ownership of people who can't or wont handle them. As you say the people who get Dogs for nefarious purposes will just jump to another breed.

When Debbie from Doncaster coos over her new Dogue de Bordeaux all of her mates will rush out and buy two each.

What you mean is that some do. Many do not.
Back in the 1990s, the dog of choice was the Rottweiler, and the fatal attacks that occurred were disproportionately from that breed, leading to the papers to call for a ban. Then it was the Pit-Bull and now the XL. This is about owners and the dogs they choose, and a ban will simply lead to another choice of dog: Presa, Ridgeback, Cane-Corso, Caucasian or Central-Asian Shepherd, and so on.

American Pitbulls were banned and this is what we have as a result, unfortunately the criminal breeders will just cross breed something else and in four to five years we will have another loose breed.

Criminal status symbol dogs have always been a problem and as usual the real issue are the owners and their particular reason for owning a breed if you can call it that but with a Police system that can’t seem to cope for various reasons these individuals are running riot.

However I’ve seen some tripe spouted on here today about muzzling all dogs and one ridiculous statement about a spaniel being more dangerous than a bull terrier.

If you don’t like dogs that’s fine but don’t be placing a massive majority of caring responsible dogs who own their people and give them a quality of life in the same category as the Frankenstein breed under scrutiny.

Two American XL bullys, eh?

Well, that’s 353 if you count both dogs:

This is simply abnormal!

14 people killed by XL bully's in last two years and they are responsible for 351 attacks this year alone by this breed. Why would you want to own such a dog?? Ban the breed as we can't properly vet owners. Just like gun control, guns don't kill people irresponsible owners do. Breed has to go I'm affraid.
Can’t believe it’s gone on so long without even being discussed.

Brindle dogs that show bastardization were always seen to be the criminal status dogs...more especially greyhounds and staffordshire bull terriers...its how the english bull terrier become white and sneaked into the kennel club ( white was clean/non poaching and brindle was underclass)

The problem isnt even the mongy owners ( unless they bred it)..the breeders will breed from a man biter so very quickly you get different lines developing...thats the reason why all the aforementioned earlier status rotts etc exploded man biting...fashion and the hurry-up with litters. In days gone by even the unscrupulous dog-pit fighters would give a man biter the bullet ( or spade) and ensure that rogue elements were removed from the breeding pool, in the days of instagram very few people will terminate a 2k bitch..especially if it can produce 8 biters in 18 months...at a certain price point breeders dont give a f*ck about a dog ragging a kid...theyve long armed it enough...nonces to a man.

Maybe Egypt had the right idea afterall.

They have banned all dogs apart from about a dozen breeds. You cannot breed or have any other outside the listed breeds.

There's an outrageous video doing the rounds showing the fella yesterday being eaten to death...dont open it.
