The fall out from yesterday has already derailed some political initiatives and inflamed Arab popular opinion, and the fall out from any ground invasion is going to be a significantly greater. I still can‘t see what a ground invasion achieves. Urban warfare against a determined enemy bunkered down in ruins with a maze of underground tunnels and a significant civilian population still in situ? That could drag on for months and still accomplish nothing.
And what is Biden’s role? Is the US effectively now managing this situation and trying to provide political leadership - something that Israel can no longer do? A US President in Israel at this crucial time is significant in itself and such visible US involvement pushes Russia into the Iranian camp meaning the US will tie aid to Israel with aid to Ukraine which pressures the GOP domestically.
