Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

Yeah, maybe so, but it was never going to be loads. We get less because we don’t collapse for team talks every few minutes.

Ultimately worked in our favour anyway.

If I had to guess... my best explanation is thus:

The 4th official is monitoring the total time the ball is in-play rather than doing what most people assume which is totting up excessive stoppages. If it drops below a certain "standard" then minutes get added. Historically we are pretty much always the team with the largest amount of time with the ball in-play because we can keep the ball for 5-10 minutes at a time. Therefore, even when teams time-waste against us (which Dubravka definitely did a fair amount of today) we still end up with more in-play time than most other teams.

The only basis for this was the fact that PGMOL specifically said at the start of the season that their objective was to increase the average amount of in-play time in games.

Just before the early offside that ended up injuring Eddie - there was a free kick given to Newcastle, I was half watching at that point but does anybody know what it was for?

The referee today was clueless, Please don't try and say VAR is not in full control of the game, Because the Referee blew his whistle when Newcastle thought they had won a Pen for handball, For one dark moment, I thought here we go, He's going to the monitor and VAR was going to cheat us out of the 3 points.

They even turned down a City Pen shout for handball and TNT never showed it on a replay,
Again So poor or are they told to not give us anything and try and unsettle the players? The yellow card for Silva was a joke and plain cheating by the Officials and the Referee,The referee was not giving him a card until he got VAR in his ear,

The Sweet feeling of winning and beating the cheating system to boot

Pretty sure it was for offside.

I usually stay out of here, but man... He had a rough game. Not booking Burn(or was it Longstaff?) for that clear-as-day tactical foul on Rodri was shocking. You just fucking knew Bernardo was going to get carded for the same thing when it happened. Except that one was 30 yards further away from the goal than where ours occurred. Also didn't play advantage on a pretty clear advantageous counter we were on.

In their defense, at what point do we stop blaming the officials and direct more blame at Howard Webb?!

The booking was a joke, but there weren’t many stoppages in the second half, were there? Can’t remember the physios coming on.

3 subs, a booking and a goal. 30 seconds for each.
Just for example …… a game where Arsenal had equalised and were all over their tiring opponents as 90 mins was reached ….. how many minutes you reckon would be added on ? 6 at a bare minimum would be a safe bet regardless of how the 2nd half had panned out.

The same would apply to the dippers.

Arsenal roll around on the floor after every defensive corner and collapse if touched in a tackle. Hence they get more time. It disrupts the flow of the game, so isn’t totally beneficial for them.

I’m glad that we don’t use those tactics and we seem to do okay without them.

No one can defend what happened today. Some will try, even on here but it was a total disgrace.
It’s not a disgrace, he hasn’t affected the result in any way. He should have booked a couple more of their players, granted.

I’m not sure Guimares was a second yellow card. The tariff is generally higher for a ref to give those. See Kovacic at Arsenal.

That’s a fair point about Arsenals time wasting, it’s so obvious & yet they seem to get away with it & are then rewarded with the time when they need it.

I’m also glad we don’t as I think it’s a glimpse into their inner psyche that reveals weakness.

In games where Arsenal are trailing or level for long periods, as they have been in some of the recent ones where famous last minute goals clinched them back to back titles, they aren’t rolling around so much and so the quarter of an hour or so that’s added on is unjustified.

We do ok in spite of the fourth official not adding on the correct amount of time. How many times at home during recent seasons when from the first min to the last it’s been a workshop in how to waste time by the opposition keeper have we moaned incredulously when only 4 or 5 mins of added time is put up at the end ?

Also see the palace player v dippers..
If Rod had done what Guimares did on was on a yellow I'm pretty sure it would be a second yellow.
Kavanagh let's fouls against us go unpunished by a card which is ok as long as he let's similar fouls by us go unpunished by cards
