Hooper had the best game I've seen him ref today, and he still managed to ruin it with that shocker of a decision.
At best, Grealish gets pulled down for 10 men, doubt he'd have gone through and scored. Our own profligacy and poor game management cost us, same as the Chelsea and Liverpool games.
That being said, the current crop of referees are the worst I can remember in 25 years of watching football. They have tried to fasttrack Hooper as one of the main refs for big games, since Dean, Moss, Atkinson etc have left. The guy isn't up to it, too much weight on for a start, he can't get around the pitch.
Something has to give. Biggest league in the world in the most watched sport. The amount of money is obscene. The Premier League are at a bit of a tipping point. VAR decisions should be mic'd and streamed onto the screens in the stadium for clarity. I fear for the game in this country when other than Oliver (despite being a big decision bottler), we are relying on the likes of Taylor, Pawson, and Hooper to ref huge games. I wouldn't trust them to ref an under 9s game.
The 4 officials are the only people in the stadium who have no accountability for their actions. Imagine being paid circa 100k for maximum 2 days work a week, and not having any form of punishment or consequences for any mistakes you make. Imagine having 5 days a week off work, with all that cash, and still resembling a barrell. Grossly unprofessional and a stain on our game. It's okay, demote to the Championship for a week, and then give them another top 4 game in a fortnight.
