Atmosphere - 2023/24

Seemed pretty poor in SS3.

Was in a foul mood as the usual person that sits behind must have sold their ticket on the exchange and some right moaning **** turned up instead. Quite unbelievable how it affected my enjoyment of the game. Thank fuck he doesn't sit there all the time.

Sorry about that, ill try to cheer up next time

Only joking, thought it was ok in SS3 (314) tonight especially second half, the normal away end that had City in joined in with most if not all the chants and most stayed until the end, much much better than I was anticipating anyway.
 
Came across pretty weak most of the game, but a strong “Come on City!” chant in the First Half even got Pep’s conductor arms going!

Seemed like a big drop off from Chelsea on the weekend, but understandably so.

Felt very edgy the whole game and felt a second goal would have calmed everyone and got things going, but it wasn’t to be.

No complaints here.
 
Atmosphere was dire last night, but at the same time Brentford did a job on us to get excited about anything , total spoilers which emulated in to the stands .
 
So the atmosphere last night was either 'better than expected', 'average for a wet Tuesday night' or 'non existent' ... that's put that little debate to bed then!
Personally I thought it was ok, we're on the back of a run of away teams setting up the Everton/Chelsea/Brentford way. That brings a mountain of possession (70% average) but also presents a difficult challenge for the players to break down which leads to tension and frustration in the crowd and every misplaced pass etc becomes a major error. It's significant that we committed twice as many fouls as Brentford despite have more than twice the possession. They simply don't need to tackle very often, sheer weight of numbers behind the ball allows no space to operate and eventually crowding out the players will lead to an interception rather than a straight tackle.
 
I do wonder what atmospheres historically some of the people on here have witnessed to think yesterday was ok. A standard league game back in the day was 10x what we heard last night.

But back in the day it wasn’t £51 quid a ticket for a midweek game against a side that were the equivalent of Brentford. Ticket pricing has a huge effect on the atmosphere in the stadium.

Deepens what you mean by back in the day? Do you mean when tickets were affordable, we had standing or when expectations weren’t as high?

I remember standard league games, to similar opposition under Sven and hughes that were quiet as anything.

I used to stand in the top left hand corner of the Kippax as you look out onto the pitch and that's where most of the chants used to start, but sometimes when you thought the whole ground was at it - or at least the whole Kippax - it often turned out it was just us lot in our own bubble and not many others outside of that. I remember one game against Wimbledon in November 1991. I decided to move across to Windy Corner in the second half for a change. I could hardly hear our fans at all but somewhat weirdly I could hear the Wimbledon fans chanting "You'll never play for England" to Keith Curle quite clearly, even though there were only about 200 of them and they were at the other end of the pitch in the Platt Lane!

The windy corner or,just under the roof next to it down by the wall it was where I started as a 12 year old on the Kippax, as you say some days could hardly hear much at all, apart from those moaning :). As I got older progressed down the Kippax and its was louder and some great atmosphere often, but not always.

These are the games that our home crowd need to be very vocal in to get the lads over the line. Very tough game this was and our home crowd are found wanting. They put up a brick wall it was very tough. With good vocal support and passion that tough wall becomes a hell of a lot easier to crack

Certainly never in the Etihad / CoMS era has it been anywhere near ten times louder than the other night for a run of the mill midweek game

I have never said that there was not any poor Atmospheres at Maine Rd, just that what is being classed as decent now really isn't. So not sure on the relevance of your comment.
