This is the sort of thing that politicians say. It is maddenly fact free. The fall in the number of nhs beds owes almost nothing to austerity but is driven by changes in medical practice and the move to greater care in the community. The number of beds has fallen steadily for over 30 years, roughly in line with other countries’ advanced health services.
If you were really interested in nhs issues you would consult the Kings Fund, the best source of nhs research.
See Kings Fund.org.uk.
The NHS is underfunded and badly run.

If you think it's well funded there's no hope. We probably are spending more today than 14 years ago when this lot came to power. But not relative to what's actually needed.

The only problem Labour have is it will take more than one term to right the wrongs, there is so much wrong people need to realise there isn’t a magic wand. Labour will have no idea how much is left in the pot, so they can cost all the stuff they want but there may not be the cash to do it.
100%

It is certainly poorly run. If I were the British dictator, the first thing I would do is to set up a standing commission to study and steer the nhs and take it out of party politics, by having all shades of opinion on the commission.
As to funding, you have to decide what the limits are for an activity that has infinite demand. The only serious attempt at this is NICE, set up by Blair, which examines budget effectiveness ie what treatments should the nhs provide and not provide. Simply saying the nhs is underfunded is meaningless. Where would you increase budgets for nhs services that are “actually needed” to quote your words?

So people left on trolleys in corridor’s has nothing to do with a lack of beds? Most families have experienced this, whilst it’s true that more care is provided in the community the decline in beds has outstripped demand, just busy your local A & E to prove it to yourself, lived experience beats theory and statistics

What 3 word slogan will the Tories think up to get the great unwashed to think that voting for them is a good idea again?
No idea they appear to be in chaos, it looks like something behind the scenes forced his hand because the old duffers in the constituencies are totally unprepared many have not even got candidates to but forward

Sorry you are talking political nonsense. You cannot draw a general conclusion from particular examples. Local factors are critical in matters like people in corridors ie trusts have taken a view on how to spend their budget. Lack of beds has multi faceted causes. As I said, read the Kings fund paper.

Lived experience and lived by 100s of thousands up and down the country like I said it beats statistics and theory

There is some good stuff in the BMA paper, but you have to be careful as the BMA is a trade union. The BMA has, of course, organised strikes for increases in their own pay which is hardly consonant with calls for bigger budgets elsewhere. There are several contentious statements there as well. For example, the use of historic spending trend as a comparitor is dubious and the fall of current spend below the trend line for one year does not support the statement made. The kings fund is independent and more reliable.

Have it your own way but those of us who have worked on nhs budgeting issues will not thank you for it.

Think tanks are always non-partisan…

As Ducado says, statistics can be moulded to fit any narrative.

A visit to a hospital and the use of your eyes is harder.
