Probably because Pep doesn't think McAtee is good enough and doesn't want to throw a young kid into the fire.
They both played decent against Spurs in the cup game. McAtee has had 2 seasons in the league with a struggling team and did well enough to suggest he can play a part if given an opportunity. Until he does we won't know if he is good enough. What I do know is Gundogan isn't good enough since he returned.

We’ve had to play Gundogan as a 6. McAtee will never be a 6.

I never said McAtee should play 6. There have been opportunities to give him minutes with Foden & De Bruyne out this season. As for Gundogan playing 6, that is down to Pep, who should be playing Nunes there. When Kova was playing, Gundogan was playing higher and still shite. He isn't good enough since he came back.

We tried a Nunes as a 6 for 15 mins vs Feyenoord…

You talk as if you know more than Pep.

If he thinks Gundogan is better to be played than Nunes and McAtee then who would argue against him?

Guardiola would play him if his optimal circumstances allowed, but they consistently have not and he now finds himself in a bind. That reliance on a small squad of senior players has stood us in good stead, but there comes a point when they can no longer physically and mentally rally to the call. I still think McAtee would serve us better on the right wing, giving us extra choices in midfield.

I think it currently exacerbates the injury problems and fatigue in the players. The small squad is great for morale, as are versatile players, but when they all age together and get injured you have more gaps. Gaps that could be filled, at least temporarily, by fringe/youth rather than overplaying players. Gundo & Bernardo must be close to the limit.

I don't need to know more than Pep to see Gundogan is finished and has been since the day he got back here.

I am sure Pep could spin any story he likes over why he's continuing to start him and nothing I say in here is going to change his mind. Doesn't mean I can't be annoyed at it.

Since nobody on the earth could " Know more than Pep" therefore what's the point of the forum?

Breaking news: After 3 years, Pep finally think Jack can play in the middle.

We've had this bullshit for years. Remember posters saying under pellegrini "he's forgotten more than you'll ever know". No doubt, doesn't mean that he (and all managers) don't get things very wrong some/a lot of the time. Pep no different despite his genius

It's nonsense. Always was always will be

Discussing is fine, what irks it's the over the top confidence that some exhibit on here as if they know more than Pep and people at the club.

Why would Pep think about playing Grealish in midfield when Gundogan was here, mostly fit, captain and one of our best players? When Gundo left for a season, Grealish was often injured and we had Rodri, Foden, Kova, Bernardo and Kevin (2nd half of the season) available. Had we had an injury crisis in midfield, Grealish would have played there earlier, provided he was fit.

Fans are free to discuss Pep's "mistakes" and they are free to think they know that and when Pep makes them, but this does not mean they are (mostly) right. The criticisms are often dumb. You can lose a game even when the tactics and the starting XI are the right choices simply because shit happens.

Same with you and Van Der Veen Reijnders and Simons. Not mention Bruno fucking G.
LMAO.

VAN DE VEN and Reijnders—you are absolutely correct. I rate them and they would fit our systm

You forgot to mention Musiala, Hakimi and Wirtz too.

Bruno? He’s that player who brings the fire and grit our soft, impotent midfield desperately needs. A necessary evil, no doubt. I doubt we would have been run through like we are being run through, if he was here.

Did you know Nicolas Otamendi will be turning 37 in February? And you want a 37-year-old slow defender as a short-term option, who wasn’t even that good the last time he was here? Really?
Maybe you think Otamendi is on Pepe’s level—news flash: he isn’t.

Bruno G is wank. Same with Van Der Ven. Wirtz definetely and to some extent Hakimi would add something to the current squad. Otamendi is still performing although we can't expect him to be a consistent performer if he did rejoin but would provide defensive cover to the current players.
