I think that would be a legitimate question if he was a defender or defensive midfielder.People aren’t lauding him as the new Messi. They are simply wondering why he can’t get any minutes to rest underperforming/jaded/unfit players.

I don't know why pep did not use him in the last month. But recently it is because James is about to leave in the coming window and no reason to risk an injury. A shame I must say. But last thing he needs is twisting his ankle and ruin the chance to get out of this mess.People aren’t lauding him as the new Messi. McAtee got a shit pass from Gvardiol for one Feyenoord's goals. Don't remember him being involved in the other two. He should have been getting regular minutes before the slump started.Mcatee was one of the reasons we drew against Feyenoord. It is not easy for the boy to play every 10 minutes in a month, like Palmer did in the past. At the time, people on here accused Cole for not good enough. The performance was not good, and that might be the end of his career under Pep unfortunately. But I’d at least give him some more minutes or a few starts in this moment to see if he can do something. We are already bad enough, and I don’t think we would do that worse with him starting. We need something fresh in the midfield area. Same to O’Reilly or Wright.
Is he definitely leaving. Permanent or loan?I don't know why pep did not use him in the last month. I'm pretty sure the attacking woes stem from the defensive frailty. Fear of losing the ball and being counter-attacked. Losing the ball anywhere on the pitch can lead to conceding a goal right now.Sorry, I forgot we were firing on all cylinders in other departments.
Fair enough, mate. However, Doku’s only just returned from injury, Jack’s been shaky and I think we are running the likes of KdB and Gundo into the ground. I appreciate McAtee isn’t in the same league as those guys when fully fit…but they aren’t.I'm pretty sure the attacking woes stem from the defensive frailty. McAtee is skillfull, but prone to losing the ball. He'd also not very quick like Doku, Savinho or Nunes, so if he does lose it, less able to recover.
I honestly just don't see what benefit it would bring, to him or the team, to chuck him in now.
Finally someone called that out. That shit show was 90% on Gvardiol sudden melt down. Juve first goal also came from something similar.McAtee got a shit pass from Gvardiol for one Feyenoord's goals. There are teams around who will take gamble on youth and play them.Players need chances to play kn pitch and have sustained game time. One match here and there are for 5 mins isn't going to helpAt the EDS level, he was the one that showed the poise and calm in midfield. He knew how to drive forward with the ball as well. Also knew how to find the net. I know, I know, youth football is different but he was a class above for about 2 seasons or so alongside Palmer and a few others.
Players, especially young ones will develop differently but a lack of game time will never let you sharpen your tools. His SHU loan definitely toughened him up for sure. Saw some good pressing that saw City the ball back in preseason.
I agree with slow integration when they are young and still growing. Many young ‘wonderkids’ have been ruined that way especially if they have no luck with injuries or get one major one. Some are never the same. Seen it with a few that have passed through at academy level.
At the end of the day, he’ll do what’s best for himself. If he stays, he has my respect despite the mountain he has to climb. If he leaves, it’s also understandable. I had faith long before Palmer left and had the same towards McAtee. Sometimes, you also just need that luck to find the right team where it clicks for you.
Oh, I agree with you. I forgot to add that but after that stage of ‘slow’ integration, more meaningful minutes are needed for sure. There are teams around who will take gamble on youth and play them.Players need chances to play kn pitch and have sustained game time. Because we've basically seen nothing of him.Nothing ive seen makes me think hes good enough im afraid
Completely agree.Because we've basically seen nothing of him.
One or 2 players from the youth set up should be integrated into the panel and need to get meaningful minutes each season, enough to determine if they have a future at or away from the club.
