PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

Jesus Christ! Where even to start with this heap of shit? I've just looked up Professor Rob Wilson's own description of his career on his university's website. As someone who, in the last few years, has been teaching at a university as a sideline to my main career, I see much that's admirable and worthy in that pedagogical environment. Certainly, I'm far from hostile to academia and I hope that no one forms an impression to the contrary.

On the other hand, I have observed that it's an environment that does from time to time allow utter charlatans to flourish, and I'd posit that this **** betrays every sign of being one of them. He seems to me to be a contemptible rogue who exhibits almost zero real-world knowledge in any aspect of his field of purported expertise, though as he sells himself as a specialist in finance, I'll leave comments on his skills that area to posters more qualified in it than I am.

But as he's commenting above on a matter of law, I am qualified to assess his aptitude in that sphere. My considered view is that he's legally illiterate. It's like asking Jack Duckworth to explain the theory of relativity, but it's worse than that. What's damaging is that he has a veneer of credibility that might induce people into thinking he's worth listening to, and such a layperson, in expecting enlightenment from his words, will be grievously misled.
I just think he's a ****

"Broadcast revenue has absolutely nothing to do with how popular a club are or aren't with TV viewers, it's mostly based on what competitions you're in, and slightly on how far you go in them."

you've pretty much contradicted yourself there but never mind, think what you want.
Broadcast revenue for top clubs is split between PL and European streams.

In the PL, half the domestic pot is shared out equally, a quarter is based on merit, depending on where you finish in the table, and the rest based on a 'facility fee' depending on how many times your games are shown on TV (although there's a minimum guarantee). That means even the teams in the relegation places will pick up around £100m, while the top four will pull in around £150m

In Europe, the CL dominates financially and the revenue distribution is based on factors like performance, progress in the competition and a market pool payment based on various factors, including the size of the TV rights deal in your national association, where you finished in your domestic league and how far you progressed compared to the other clubs in that association. A PL club that wins the CL will probably earn over £100m from UEFA.

If you're in the CL then you'll earn a lot more than a team in the Europa or Conference because the overall prize pot is so much bigger. If you're not in Europe at all then you'll won't get anything other than domestic revenue.

How many fans watch your games has no bearing on how much TV money you earn.

Sheffield fucking Hallam again. I particularly liked this little piece of precision academic analysis:

"Dr Wilson added: “A transfer embargo I think is almost a guarantee because they have to provide some level of sporting sanction which then would explain why they've suddenly gone into the market and are signing potentially four players.. Well definitely bringing three in I think, aren't they, potentially four so, yeah"."
Wasn’t that Irish melt from there?

That post was delivered from the heart, excellent post.

I haven’t contradicted myself at all.

Liverpool were in the Europa league last season. Doesn’t matter if a billion people watched every game, and 5 people watched ours, they weren’t going to get near our Champions League broadcast money.

This year we’re both in the CL, and the only meaningful difference will be if one team gets further than the other and hence a bigger slice of broadcast money.

Totally accurate.

The one thing the viewing figures show and support, is why we deserve high value sponsorship contracts. We get far in competitions, the sponsors get the most exposure.

So many opposition fans seem to think their teams deserve bigger sponsorship deals because "they have more fans". Sponsors aren't after the most fans, they're after the most viewers.

I am wrong in thinking that the Premier League can not enforce a transfer ban as only FIFA can introduce transfer embargos. Oh and who the fuck is Doctor Wilson.

I wonder when the Premier League will be announcing their investigation?

I won't hold my breath...
My thoughts too when I saw the news this morning. Basically CFC bankrolled by tax evasion schemes, which let’s face it doesn’t surprise me but should (but it probably won’t) trigger some kind of investigation from the EPL.

PL: But this was all a long time ago, historic if you will, there is no sporting advantage from it now. Now moving on to the real issue, City via nefarious means paid Mancini an effective double wage in 2010, and our disadvantaged PL’s members are still dealing with the shocking fallout from that till this day, which is why…

So Bob Wilson is a bit of a ****?
