Hooliganism and Violence Maine Road 80's/early 90's

When we played them in the FA Cup they went across from the North St to have a go at H outer Main Stand for some reason. Opposite direction of where they'd find City lads.
They wouldn't come out of the North Stand after the game. Shit themselves.

I think it was late 90’s. Actually think it was 2001 I’m sure other posters will remember the year.

From what I remember they attacked the Main Stand. Who attacks the main stand ffs?

They regretted evey minute. I've been told. In case some clueless woke **** starts stalking me.

(modern football fan equivalent would be steaming into the Colin Bell stand - embarrasing)

Us pensioners would have sorted Coventry out though.

i only ask as i started going to Maine Rd as a kid from ~1989, and i remember one game walking back to the car at Whalley Range high, around mid 90s or after (i remember being a teenager) and a load of fans from City and ...xxxx... ran out of a side street near the stadium hurling bricks at each other. My dad just grabbed me and we ran :D

that was my first close up encounter with that stuff. I have a strong memory of it being Coventry, but perhaps i am wrong, it was definitely mid 90s.

No. That went to a replay. We beat Coventry 1-0 the day they came into Main Stand. Very late Goater winner
I thought it was a night game when it kicked off with Cov, which aligns with 1996. We drew at Highfield Road. The replay was mid week. We knew we had Man U at the swamp the following weekend.

If it was a Saturday then you’re right. My memory is fucked.

It's lifetimes ago most of this shit ......most of my memories mingle into a garbled mess these days.

Correct. Half the Kippax and the boys who would usually go in the North stand were waiting outside. We waited but they wouldnt leave the stand.

I’ve just googled it. There’s news articles saying there was trouble and arrests made in 2001.

Some comments from Grimsby fans on fb made out they got the better of City that day
They did ok to be fair, turned up early and it kicked off on the corner of ticket office, non of our lot were there really, and they took advantage of surprise and having loads more! Disappeared after when a few of ours who were there, wanted retribution!

Me and my mate who has since passed, walked right through all of that, but in my memory it was v Hull not grimsby,it
was mid 80's . We'd got the bus from aytoun street and were walking round to the kippax nursing hangovers from the night before. All happened in about 30 seconds, if it was the same game, anyone and everyone got a crack off them,i saw dads carrying their young kids and nursing busted lips and noses with the other hand, they were a fucking disgrace
doing what they did,we couldn't do owt on our own and it was over in a flash, all these years Iv hated hull when it was grimsby !
