Which Bands Got Worse After Replacing An Original Member

The Who

My fave band ever........but Keith Moon was not replacable.

Went from one of the best live performance bands to, well, a steady live band.

A shame, but should have called it a day when Moon died.

Since Entwhistle died too, a bit embarrassing, a pale shadow of a once brilliant rock band.

Like a lot of the great bands from long ago their aged longevity is diminshing their past brilliance.

just my opinion though, if you enjoy guys in their 70s/80s trying to rock, good for you.
I know what you mean - and I am way too young by decades and decades to have ever seen Keith Moon live.

BUT -

I saw The Who in 2017 with Zak Starkey on drums and it is right up there as one of the best gigs of my life - fucking sensational.

I've always liked Starkey's drums though. IMO Oasis' best period was when he played drums in the later years.

I much prefer Gabriel Genesis, and solo......however my fav album of theirs is 'A Trick of The Tail' ?? ....nosedived after that for me.
I think the first 3 albums without PG : A trick of the Tail, Wind And Wuthering and And Then there were three all had some good tracks and retained some of the prog sound. Duke also had some decent tracks but for me was the start of the end - songs like Misunderstanding I just couldn’t listen to.

I agree, but strangely I enjoyed Abacab.

Really? Their best tunes emerged after he left.
They became a completely different animal. Nobody could repeat Green’s fantastic playing and tone. As MF said: “When Peter was on form, he could break your heart.” Green would not have approved of their move towards pop. But it’s like all these views, they are personal. As a Green fan, I did not like the Buckingham-Nicks version of FM at first but later I came to appreciate some very good melodies. Oh, and Christine McVie’s ‘Songbird’, well just greatness personified.

Peter was an extremely gifted musician and like Syd Barrett he was bordering on being a kind of genius. Band leader, singer, lead guitarist and band songwriter. He created Fleetwood Mac.

He wrote several top 10 hits which is pretty unheard of from a Blues musician who is also a virtuoso on guitar.
Hits including Black Magic Woman, Albatross, Man Of The World, Oh Well and the fabulous Green Manalishi. A song about his own demons.
