Metrolink to / from Etihad

The incompetent management is only part of the problem. It’s not fit for purpose by design, any mass transit system that shares congested roads with taxis, cars and thousands of pedestrians is doomed to failure. It can never work properly without radical restructuring of the people and vehicle flow on matchday/concert nights
We should have gone under the City.

No it isn’t, the Altrincham trams from Piccadilly never go anywhere near Market Street. Do you not know their normal operating routes?

Mate, I didn’t say they did. They had to have a re-gig of the whole system while Market St. is closed.

I think we’ve covered this now haven’t we?

Yes it is, but why no trams from Piccadilly to Altrincham?

See above, they're not running through Piccadilly due to maintenance work. They're going nowhere near Piccadilly, all trams from Altrincham are going to Bury or Victoria via exchange square.

Too many people use the tram just to make the Etihad-City centre trip. In midweek, I walk home and I am often in St Peters Square when trams roll in from the Etihad and people pour off. I agree that the Metrolink is inefficient but there is no money to do it properly (like Shanghai).
Shanghai doesn’t have trams but most major European cities do and they’re pretty much all better designed and operated than ours

When they were doing work on Mosley Street the Altrincham trams had to go to Victoria because it was impossible to get to Piccadilly.

Since that work finished they resumed the Altrincham to Piccadilly service on Monday the 17th March.

Why the fuck have they now stopped it when there is no physical impediment.

I maintain my position that the people in charge are brain dead, and the whole service does not even do justice to a third world country.

So please tell me how I travelled through Piccadilly?
Trams are going through Piccadilly. The point is, not grasped by an ignorant idiot on here, there was no reason to disrupt the Alty line and despite what some say, a lot of people did not know about it.

To put it in simple terms. The Alty Bury line has been re-routed as that went along Market St. The Alty Ashton line gas been suspended for no apparent reason.

You and I seem to be the only people who know how the Metrolink usually operates?

So re-open the Altrincham to Piccadilly line on the 17th March then shut it on the 25th March just a week later for no apparent reason other than that they can do what they fucking well like.

I hate this organisation with a passion.

I agree it is frustrating to re-open a service only to then suspend it for a month the following week.

In their defence, they do publish revised running patterns on their website (and I assume at the stations affected) as per this link ...

... but it sounds like the staff weren't advised or trained properly for the game on Wednesday to be able to help people.

Quite why they decided to run it this way is probably down to ensuring the whole network gets the right trams in the right places with access to the necessary depots. Running too many trams into Piccadilly down Mosley Street may just cause a snarl up and is just one of the reasons why the network is really poorly planned.

Just remember, those of us from the north of the region coming to games have this all the time. We usually end up walking the last 1.5 miles (or even 2 miles sometimes) or travelling 1 hour earlier so we don't get crushed, what kind of shit system is that? We don't even get it cheaper by walking the last part!

For what its worth...

The reason they won't run Altrincham services through Piccadilly is that the Bury-Piccadilly ones cant go down Market Street. So they have to go somewhere else and Metrolink decided that they should all run to Altrincham instead, like they did last month. Therefore there's already a 6 min service from Altrincham and no spare trams to run Piccadilly as well. Maybe the right decision, maybe not. I get it's not intuitive given the actual track/roads are open....

What's not right is the fact that they didn't personally contact two of the posters on here to ask their permission up front, and perhaps guide them all the way to and from the stadium. Imagine relying on all the posters, signs, tram-front destinations, websites etc that a couple of people didn't look at....

Sorry mate but i’m not having that .

When Mosley Street was shut the Altrincham to Piccadilly service could not operate but the Bury to Piccadilly could. Altrincham therefore had half the usual service.

The current closure of Market Street and Shudehill as you quite rightly state means the Bury to Piccadilly service can not run.

So now we have the situation that both Bury and Altrincham have reduced services for no apparent obvious reason.

The reason that Blue Mist and my self are pissed off is that Altrincham has yet again got the thin end of the wedge.

What is to stop them running two Altrincham to Bury trams then one Altrincham to Piccadilly tram?

Mr smart arse is posting again I see.

For your information a lot of Blues did not know about it, could not get help from metro staff and had not read any of the millions of signs posted.
How do I know ? Because I spoke to them on the night.
If you can't be civil, fuck off.

I see the expected finish time of both the De Bryune farewell and the concert are exactly 10.30.

That could be fun on the trams.

Trams were proper rammed but it all went ok...............being crushed on a tram isn't pleasant.

The fact that no extra trams every few minutes are put on for these times is not great transport.

I've heard the reasons why (electricity load etc) It still stinks of bad planning.

The London underground seems to manage ok mostly.

Decided last night to park and ride at Ashton Moss due to the concerts and hoping for a quick getaway.
Had to wait 20 mins for a tram and a bit of a shitter when i counted 9 trams going to Manchester.
Just a good job that the weather was fine..
