Statins...my mum is on them and is telling me how bad they make her feel? Is that common?
I've been on them for about 5-6 years now, started on 20mg Atorvastatin (daily) and went on to 40mg about 6 months ago as my LDL/HDL ratio was slightly too high so GP said to try 40mg tablets and they brought it down to an acceptable limit and bloods were fine.
Personally haven't had any side effects from it that I'm aware of, that's the only statin I've ever taken.
I know there's various different types of statins, my Dad's on a different one but I can't remember the name (also had no issues).
Apparently not all statins cause the same side effects although there are some side effects common to all. Your Mum could contact her GP and maybe look at seeing if changing to a different statin could make a difference?

There's an answer below from AI about some statin side effects, but as it's AI generated take it with a pinch of salt

"While common side effects like headaches, dizziness, and digestive issues are shared, the specific types and severity of side effects can vary between different statins. For example, simvastatin may be more likely to cause muscle pain, especially at high doses, compared to other statins. Additionally, some statins, like pravastatin and rosuvastatin, may be less likely to cause muscle aches than others"

Christ I’ve come of Setraline, I felt sick for first two weeks I must’ve had every side effect it listed, took it for 4 months but then I’d get like brain fog and libido went through the floor, gradually come off it again feeling sick as anything, still get a swimming head at the moment I’m hoping it’s the slow after effects and not something else.

Got one booked to Miami and Boston in 4 weeks. Had to cancel recent long weekend to Edinburgh due to her father (aged 90) being ill. We've cancelled various trips over the last 2 or 3 years due to him being ill. We've asked will he go in care home that the mother is in for 2 weeks while we are away as they offer temporary respite care. He's refused so now trying to convince him to get his carers come more often. At moment every other day and we've asked will he agree to every day or even twice some days.
It’s no wonder you are stressed her father is being stubborn probably afraid you might leave him in the care home.
Getting extra carers in may be the answer fingers crossed he agrees because it’s affecting you and your Mrs and you need a break, some time to unwind.

I had serious insomnia on that sometimes sleeping only 5 minutes a night. A nightmare.
A relative has just begun taking it

Did you get the 'Brain Zaps'?

What do you mean?
Like a little shiver in the brain. A flash in the brain. They're common with coming off anti-depressants, I think. I get them a lot. Sometimes the meds can actually cause them. It's not exactly known why, but they're thought to be little brain seizures. Harmless but annoying.

Had my nhs talking therapy assessment today, lots of questions for an hour, she will come up with some plans and call me next week after i have seen the critical care shrink

Might have said this before but go on the nhs app and self refer if you need some help , going through your dr is useless

Much love xx

No mate but what I am getting is something like motion sickness, if I move my head just a little to quick I seem to swaying in my head, it’s fucking weird, like I said I hope it goes soon otherwise Imight need to go back to the docs, something just isn’t right, it’s hard to really describe.

I know the feeling from when I tried coming off them. I'm still on them. Couldn't do it. You did gradually ween yourself off them, didn't you?

I really hated the brain fog.

It was the one thing that made me come off it as I hated not feeling in control of much.

I think I could end up on antipsychotics
I've begun to view the world as satanic and people as evil
I can barely leave the house cos I just see everything as horrible
Though if you spend five minutes on social media it's easy to conclude that we live in a maelstrom of hate bitterness and bloodlust

It's terrifying to be in this situation

It certainly must be terrifying :-(
Do you have family or friends around you that can support you?
A close relation of mine has been having mental health problems for some time. He was referred to Talking Therapies but they have stopped it, saying that kind of treatment isn't appropriate and that his issues are more "complex."
He feels that he is just getting passed around from one professional to another.
Medication hasn't helped either.
