Oasis reunion

Did anyone get tickets in the front standing last night? The reason I ask is my lad has broken his femur in an accident at work and is confined to a wheelchair for 6 weeks. He’s got tickets in the front standing on the 19th and was just wondering how much space there is in that area? Plenty of reservations for hid ticket if he can’t go so don’t get excited!!!

I did not see the Roses at that time as I was born in 79. It was 94 or 95 when I first seen them. Reni had left.
The voice is the key thing as that will go, especially with all the drugs and smoking. That's why Dave Gahan had singing lessons in his 40's and 50's. I would be shocked if Liam has not been seeing a vocal coach.
My initial reply was to the poster who said people should have gone back in the day. I don't understand why. There is absolutely no reason for Oasis not to put on a better performance now, than in their apparent prime. Last time I seen them at Heaton Park, they were shite. My mate went last night and he said it was glorious.
There is far too much negativity in this thread. People saying it will not be the same, it was better in my day. My ethos has always been 'if today is not your day, you might as well be dead'.
There are loads of people complaining about people recording stuff on their phones, as if they have a right to dictate how people enjoy themselves.
Now I went to Knebworth and there was not a single camera phone in sight. Now, I really wish that I had a phone back then as half the people I went with are now dead. I have fading memories of that gig. In fact that are more emotions and feelings rather that definitive memories. I would love to have some recordings of the shenanigans as my memories are only going to fade further.
As for Depeche Mode, SOFAD was their creative peak. Black Celebration, Music for the Masses, Violator and then SOFAD was the golden run. If Depeche Mode had carried on in the same Vince Clark vein, they would have not made it to the 90's.
I don’t see the big problem with people recording a few bits of a gig. What I can’t understand is people recording pretty much every song and watching the gig through the phone. Get yourself involved ffs.

So glad I’ve got tickets to see them next month. I can’t believe how good they sound. I think Liams had a point to prove to Noel he’s in this for the long haul rather than just a quick reunion money spinner. Noel definitely seems to be coming out his shell compared to the first night in Cardiff.

Fuck him.
First of all Richard, why United?
“That’s a really good question. I come from such a hybrid area. Skelmersdale, built near to where I was brought up, was a new town for Liverpool. So there was a real mixture of football supporters at school. There were United fans, and Liverpool and Everton fans whose families had moved from Liverpool to Skelmersdale. But essentially it was an old friend of mine. There was a family who lived across the road who used to go to watch United. They took me to my first match when I was about 10 or 11.”
And don't forget,he's a right miserable **** too !

All good points but the Oasis I saw at Manchester University then Leeds Irish Centre couldn’t be topped. Fresh, exciting, on the cusp of becoming huge, you just knew they were destined to be massive. His voice was grade A material. Saw that voice gradually diminish live (Wembley, Reebok Etihad Heaton Park Lancs Crucket). They / He sound good now but not a patch on those earliest of days.
As for phones - just watch and enjoy and hold on to the memories.

I can only go off my experience.
Stone Roses were better live at Heaton Park than they were at the Apollo in 95
New Order are far better live now than when I seen them in the 90's. That's even with no Hooky. Depeche Mode are a far better live now than when I seen them at their peak in the 90's. That's when they had Alan Wilder. The list goes on and on. It's the same for James, The Charlatans and so on.
You're looking back through rose tinted glasses, back to a time when you were young and you have cherised those moments.
But, if musicians play for multiple hours every single day, for 35 years, they get a lot better. They perfect their stage routine and put on a better show. They have better gear. It might not have the edge and vitality they gad when playing in the Hac, 40 years ago. But, they are better musicians. There is absolutely no reason why Oasis can't put on better performances now than they did at Maine Rd or Knebworth.
As for your Morrissey comment. The Smiths don't play together. Morrissey is not going to be better than the Smiths. Johnny Marr is a once in a lifetime guitarist, a generational talent. I guarantee you now that Johhny Marr is a far better musician now that he was 40 years ago.
The Roses I saw in Widnes Warrington and the International II in ‘88 and ‘89 were light years ahead of the shambles that showed up at Heaton Park. Light years.

Seen them about 20 times, tiny venues like the apollo 2k wolverhampton 1300 max, Watford coliseum 800 capacity. Barcelona, Amsterdam and across Europe. Numerous stadium gigs. That might of been the most enjoyable gig tonight, watching with my best mate and close family was quality. Loads of groups that were similar singing their hearts out was unreal.

Same here. My first was Maine Rd, did Knebworth and was all over the UK watching them after that. Last night was up there, if not the best gig I’ve ever been to. It was perfect, can’t really say any more than that.

suppose in my 20's i prob would have done.
nothing worse now a bit older, herded out like sheep, stop/start signs, crushed and crawling when had i left few mins earlier all could have been avoided.

That aside ... anyone there last night leave at the end and was ok to get out ?

We left at the end after the fireworks, was back at Shudehill at 23:50, we used the shuttle bus, hardest part was walking to the bus as the ground was a proper ankle breaker where you had to queue!

That's easier said than do in regards to memories. I have absolutely zero recollection of seeing Oasis at the Etihad. I don't remember even being there. I had it in my head that that the stage was at the opposite side of the ground and I was wrong about that.

cheers info, we have a after party booked in a bar at piccadilly after - so ideally like to be there before half 11 so i have some life left in me.

This is just fucking mental. A lot of people will be sub-25 yrs old and it's like they're witnessing peak Oasis today, at the peak of a cultural zeitgeist, when in fact they weren't even born when Oasis peaked. It's mad, I haven't seen anything like this in all my years of going to gigs. I can't think of any other group who could reform and have this effect on the younger generation.

Awesome
I’m 54 next month and a massive music fan. I’ve jumped from Punk to mod to 80s indie to madchester to rave/house and then oasis. I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like this before in that time. Quite incredible really. Anyone who says they’re shit must be Dire Straits fans.

Ian brown might have been a shambles. But, there is absolutely no way on this earth that John Squire was a better guitarist in 1988 than he was in 2015. Same with Mani.
The Saturday at Heaton Park was great as you could not hear Ian Brown.

I have never seen anything like this. People were buying tickets on Viagogo for £500+, at 8pm last night.
What's pissed me off a bit is that there were still tickets on there for a grand, even after the band had started. Greedy badtards would rather let a ticket go to waste rather than lowering the price. Absolute cunts.

Angry man , you ok this morning?

My wife, sister in law, brother and mates went yesterday and said it was off the scale. The whole atmosphere of the day from being in town, the beer gardens round home and then going into the venue we're brilliant. The band were spot on and everyone said it was one of the best gigs they've been to. I was driving but it did seem better for getting out of HP than it was when we saw the Roses there a good few years ago. Saw plenty of retro City shirts going past in the car as well!

Merch prices are obviously ludicrous and the tat my wife brought home is literally like the stuff you get in Benidorm haha but she paid sky high prices for it! There's people on Sheepfoot Lane selling stuff as well if you're looking for a t shirt etc!

If you're going tonight you will have a belter! Also I didn't realise but it's on YouTube or it was last night apparently if you want to watch it. Edit - that's what my mother in law said but I can't see it!

Whether you like them or not, it's put Manchester back on the map again and it's pulled a LOT of people into the city and they've spent a lot of money. I'd rather have this here than it being in Leeds or Liverpool etc etc.

Enjoy it tonight if you're going!

I have never known such a buzz around Manchester for any gig.
