You're looking back through rose tinted glasses, back to a time when you were young and you have cherised those moments.
But, if musicians play for multiple hours every single day, for 35 years, they get a lot better. They perfect their stage routine and put on a better show. They have better gear. It might not have the edge and vitality they gad when playing in the Hac, 40 years ago. But, they are better musicians. There is absolutely no reason why Oasis can't put on better performances now than they did at Maine Rd or Knebworth.
As for your Morrissey comment. The Smiths don't play together. Morrissey is not going to be better than the Smiths. Johnny Marr is a once in a lifetime guitarist, a generational talent. I guarantee you now that Johhny Marr is a far better musician now that he was 40 years ago.

The Roses I saw in Widnes Warrington and the International II in ‘88 and ‘89 were light years ahead of the shambles that showed up at Heaton Park. Light years.

Same here. My first was Maine Rd, did Knebworth and was all over the UK watching them after that. Last night was up there, if not the best gig I’ve ever been to. It was perfect, can’t really say any more than that.

We left at the end after the fireworks, was back at Shudehill at 23:50, we used the shuttle bus, hardest part was walking to the bus as the ground was a proper ankle breaker where you had to queue!

That's easier said than do in regards to memories. I have absolutely zero recollection of seeing Oasis at the Etihad. I don't remember even being there. I had it in my head that that the stage was at the opposite side of the ground and I was wrong about that.

cheers info, we have a after party booked in a bar at piccadilly after - so ideally like to be there before half 11 so i have some life left in me.

I’m 54 next month and a massive music fan. I’ve jumped from Punk to mod to 80s indie to madchester to rave/house and then oasis. I can honestly say I’ve never seen anything like this before in that time. Quite incredible really. Anyone who says they’re shit must be Dire Straits fans.

Ian brown might have been a shambles. But, there is absolutely no way on this earth that John Squire was a better guitarist in 1988 than he was in 2015. Same with Mani.
The Saturday at Heaton Park was great as you could not hear Ian Brown.

I have never seen anything like this. People were buying tickets on Viagogo for £500+, at 8pm last night.
What's pissed me off a bit is that there were still tickets on there for a grand, even after the band had started. Greedy badtards would rather let a ticket go to waste rather than lowering the price. Absolute cunts.

My wife, sister in law, brother and mates went yesterday and said it was off the scale. The whole atmosphere of the day from being in town, the beer gardens round home and then going into the venue we're brilliant. The band were spot on and everyone said it was one of the best gigs they've been to. I was driving but it did seem better for getting out of HP than it was when we saw the Roses there a good few years ago. Saw plenty of retro City shirts going past in the car as well!

Merch prices are obviously ludicrous and the tat my wife brought home is literally like the stuff you get in Benidorm haha but she paid sky high prices for it! There's people on Sheepfoot Lane selling stuff as well if you're looking for a t shirt etc!

If you're going tonight you will have a belter! Also I didn't realise but it's on YouTube or it was last night apparently if you want to watch it. Edit - that's what my mother in law said but I can't see it!

Whether you like them or not, it's put Manchester back on the map again and it's pulled a LOT of people into the city and they've spent a lot of money. I'd rather have this here than it being in Leeds or Liverpool etc etc.

Enjoy it tonight if you're going!

I have never known such a buzz around Manchester for any gig.
 
I love threads like this.
They show up that peculiarly British, and wholly unlikeable, trait of being contrary and obtuse for the sake of it. As if it somehow validates one’s own feeling of self worth.
You can predict it like the phases of the moon. A group of people contribute to a thread to celebrate the reunion of the biggest British rock band for generations, happily post how happy they are at the news, and generally just celebrate a wonderful piece of news, and as sure as eggs is eggs, the thread is quickly hijacked by the ‘too cool for school’ crowd.

“Oasis are shit”, “not what they were” etc etc.

It doesn’t make you look nuanced and sophisticated. It makes you look like a miserable ****.

That's why I always say the Gallaghers earned the right to be involved with City. When they were the biggest band in the world they stood up for City. Who were really shit at the time.
