PL charge City for alleged breaches of financial rules

I've learnt loads on here by you and a few other posters about this case mate and you need to stop putting yourself down at the end of the post.
You're obviously a clever bloke, embrace having the brains others wish they had.

If only that were true :)

if the PL have little chance of success why was there a need for a 12 week hearing and best part of year to write it up with tens of millions legal bills on both sides.

That was probably part of the club's point. But once it started, the process had to finish. There is no throwing in the white towel in this sport. No giving up and not tracking back. And as for costs, when the allegations are not proven, the costs will likely be largely for the PL. Anyway, if you are Mansour and Khaldoon, what price your integrity? They will spend what it takes.

It seems there is a lot more concern about this case at City than from supporters on here.

I don't sense any concern from the club at all. Of course, you never know, but what do you see that shows concern? Surely not taking the PL through the long, tortuous and unnecessary legal journey they started? That is a sign of strength, not concern.

And our owners might not be bothered about PR, but what they have done has left us with a reputation that will take a generation to shift regardless of the result of 115.

I struggle with this as well. It's pretty clear the money is going to be made from international expansion and diversification into related entertainment industries. Not from the kids of Joe Scouse and Fred Rag supporting City in the future. Their loss.

Anyway, my comment was just to reinforce my opinion that the club have this under control, and have done since before it started.

I get some people don't see it like that. But nothing, not a single thing, has happened in the last thirty months to persuade me to change that opinion.

That doesn't mean it's right, of course :)

I think you are missing the nuance of what I was trying to say. Or maybe you just don't agree with it.

But I don't think Mansour and Khaldoon care about embarrassing the PL in a public sense. I think they will want to "embarrass" the PL internally and structurally.

They certainly knew the PL would end up charging the club with something. All I am saying is that, while the charges were being developed, the club cleverly put themselves in a position where the fallout was going to be serious for the PL once the charges inevitably couldn't be proven.

I think they have done that well and I think we will see that pretty soon now.

And yes, the APT shenanigans was part of that.

Or I may be talking complete bollocks. Who knows?

A sort of “cool hand luke” strategy that allows your opponent to think they have the upper hand whilst quietly plotting…..

What has happened over the past decade to even suggest we have anything close to resembling a PR team?

There's more chance of finding Lord Lucan than there is finding anyone within the City Football Group who has a qualification or experience in Public Relations.

The decade's fastest growing global sports business does not happen without strong leadership in every area of the business. Naturally, we pay too much attention to the negative ramblings of some 'journalists' and 'pundits' because we are emotionally involved and they court controversy for engagement. It just happens that we are the biggest rivals to their biggest earners, and they want to protect their earnings.

And at the same time restrict or even better, eradicate ours.

I think we should all start spreading rumours that ‘a little bird has told us’ that far from City getting points deducted we are actually being awarded 10 bonus points for every season from 2013 and so will be credited with a few more Premiership titles.

Plus the CL win we missed because of Chelsea cheating.

Ehh ! The whole of Europe think we are cheats. We’ve had years of negative media coverage without any push back from City which has made a shit situation even worse.

We even had the boss of La Liga calling us cheats yet again yesterday - with not a murmur in response from City.

Absolutely ridiculous thinking this is some kind of elaborate PR strategy from City.

I would say we could not have played it any worse and our PR team if they even exist have made an absolute arse in virtually everything they have done for years.
Not sure where you are based but to be honest, Europe & other countries aren’t that obsessed by the issue. They have always appreciated us.

I’ve heard that. The PL want to do it as a gesture for damaging our reputation. I was having a drink with some PL executives and they casually dropped it into conversation. Not ITK but just saying what I’ve heard

I never said it was a PR strategy. These people aren't like you and me. They don't care about PR - and the fact there is no murmur in response to any of it should give you a clue.

I think it's a very personal FAFO legal strategy. The PL have been FAing about accusing some pretty serious people of financial fraud without, imho, any chance of success. And they are about to FO.

All imho, of course.

Sometimes its best to leave well alone rather than blow it up bigger than it warrants.

It may well be that we don't actually have a PR team, or anyone employed in a PR role.

But we still put a good chunk as a figure through the books. And use it to pay Haaland's wages. Sounds like something we would do.
