Genuine question, do you feel the same of the likes of Summerbee etc?
Genuine answer. I never emotionally attach myself to personalities, nor would I ever be in awe of them. What matters to me is the story of the club, where it has come from where it is going how it gets there. The lows, the highs, the frustration, the joy. That is my reason for following City. However I would say that if I felt that a person was exclusively committed to City, as a fan would be, then I would probably be giving of a greater respect than others that have just passed through and made us just another notch in their careers.

Nope. Starts with the GK. If we don't have a sweeper that is calm and confident on the ball the defensive line cannot be moved 20 yards etc. Every position is important and it's even more important to get players that suit the system unfortunately Joe doesn't.
3 months ago I wouldn't have swapped him for any keeper out there but now it's blindingly obvious why he needs replacing

This is about the tenth time I've said this, not to you, obviously, but leaving anything external of play out of this, the level of distribution is shoddy and invariably invites pressure back on to his back line, as he gives possesion away cheaply... That will reduce in a possesion based system, something (imo) hart won't we able to cope with.... If you're discounting the 'bad apple' scenario as well, what do you believe are peps motives?? Shits and giggles
I don't know what his motives are, he's hardly immune from making mistakes and clearing our entire spine out in one window will be one. GK is not a position we should be wasting time, effort ad resources on changing, we have a homegrown keeper who's consistently been one of the best in the league and at the club for the last 6 seasons, who's turned in stellar performances against every big side we've played in Europe and who's seemingly not being given a chance to prove his worth by the new coach. I haven't forgotten Caballero being rated higher in Spain than Bravo and better than Hart by many until he got here and people realised the grass was nowhere near greener on the other side and that he wasn't a fucking patch on Hart.

Agree with everything you've said here.

And that is why he's buying in the likes of Stones.

I agree, I'm just making the point that whilst the likes of Neuer look wonderful, it really does help when you have Bayern's back line. Things could be a bit more hairy for Neuer if he were being closed down rapidly and he's passing it to a nervy Clichy or Kolarov, or for that matter Otamendi / Mangala / Kompany.

Someone will raise their eyebrows at me mentioning Kompany there, but we've not seen him playing this style of football either, and whilst he's clearly been our most composed defender for years, we've still been found wanting when pressured by the best. And of course, he has an uncertain future thanks to his injuries.

To my mind, if Stones does well early on, it will only accelerate Kompany's departure from the team (hopefully not the club) or at least he'll be backup to Stones. I could be completely wrong though, and he might see Kompany at rCB and Stones playing lCB, leaving Otamendi / Mangler playing second fiddle.

Too early to judge this season, but to be honest, my gut feeling would be no, I'd not fancy him strongly under pressure from the very top forwards. But I'm not seeing him day in day out.
I wouldn't think Pep necessarily sees him in his longer term plans, but we can't upgrade everybody in one fell swoop, and Pep might have to wait for the right upgrade to become available.

I think Otamendi has far more ability if he can cut out his impetuous moments.

I wasn't promoting the idea of AK, I was pointing out that a keeper who is accurate and composed will lighten the proverbial fuck ups. How one receives the ball and shows is fundamental to what pep is trying to implement... Let's be honest here, in a sequence of 10/15 passes between defender and GK, would you trust Joe?

Joe is a better shot stopper, as long as you don't shoot to his left.....
There isn't a keeper out there without a weaker hand. That's like saying Neuer is a great shot stopper as long as you don't roll it into the bottom corner because he's really substandard at saving those.

Entirely agree. I will be sad to see him go. One of the best keepers we've ever had, still in his prime.

He hasn't even been given a chance to adapt to This 'sweeper keeper' role. Along with Kompany and Zabs I thought he might finish his career with us and be a City legend. I am sure that is what he would of liked as well.

Worlds apart on this fella. The fact you rate Joe higher than bravo is enough to leave it there.... Let's hope Pep doesn't fuck us up too much, how will we all survive!!!

I do understand your want to distance yourself from the emotional attachment, seeing the club as a whole rather than its pieces avoids you getting like I am at the moment over the talk of Hart, one of my modern heroes. But the highs, the lows where we've been, what we've achieved is in no small part a result of those players.

My point about Summerbee, is that although not ever player we have will have a love for the club beyond their pay check, some may and those may never get the chance to show any kind of commitment if they are discarded as an employee if another applicants cv looks better.
It's the love of them players, the emotional investment that I believe sets football aside, it's what makes it the most viewed sport in the world.

Personally I'd be more worried about where the full backs and centre mids were and what the fuck they were doing, after all Guardiola doesn't like passing for the sake of passing.

You don't know more than pep about tactics mate - none of us do. Just trust him.

Well I'm going off his words there, seeing as he 'hates Tiki Taka', I can't imagine he'd be too happy about the centre halves and goalkeeper playing 15-20 passes between them without moving the ball into a better position. Don't think I've ever seen Neuer, Valdes, Ter Stegen or Bravo contribute more than 2 or 3 to a move either and I don't think they'd be too comfortable with the idea.

We need to tie some sort of electric devise to Otta. My mate tells me you can buy them in Sex shops. Every time he falls on his arse - pep can give him an electric shock to his balls.
Cracking idea. They could also leave one on each seat so the fans could also strap one onto their balls. That should get the attendances up.
