Had no service today, reminded me of him under a shit show under Manuel, where he had to come deep to get the ball as he was completely starved.

Yes the least of our problems, but there are games like today where I'd have played him on the left with Kelchi in the centre. Especially when Nolito isn't available.

anyone blaming him today is just plain daft

In our list of issues today he is behind Zabaleta, Kolarov, Fernando, Navas and Otamendi (first half).

Have to say though criticising Zabaleta is really difficult. He has been outstanding for city and the best RB in the league for a few years but seeing players who he would have had in his pocket previously go past him at ease is gutting.

Totally agree he has been outstanding for us but he hasn't been the best RB for about 2 yrs

Sadly he hasn't been in the top 10 never mind the best.

TBF last season was a bit of write-off with his injury issues .... Very demanding for the full backs and at Zab's age he's struggling. We need two new young, fast, energetic full backs, any ideas??

Will always be one of my all time fav players ...

Being asked a question playing deeper across the line. It ain't him.
Get him back to where he plays best, tearing centre backs a new one, not out on a flank.

He needs to be able to do both. When we're pressed, the CMs will need forward options and Aguero has to come into space to make room for forward passes. He can't just hang about the back line hoping his teammates find a way through. But when he gets on the ball he needs to move it quickly to someone else and get forward as quickly as possible. This is one of the things Lewandowski excelled at.

If you watch the beautiful goal we scored a week ago where we started out from the keeper you'll see Kelechi come amazingly deep to receive a pass and move it along then ends up sprinting most of the pitch to support the attack. It was a small thing but exactly what was needed. He presented options twice (in the build up and on the break) that allowed the entire attack to flourish.

I don't think Sergio is particularly bad at this or never does this (and I don't think Kelechi is better at this, either) but I do think it's an area we must focus on against these pressing teams. You need to have multiple passing options at all times and they need to be available immediately. We have too many players who hide from making themselves available.

Why am I seeing so much Sergio hating from blues all of a sudden online? Seriously, back in your fucking holes.
