Correct.

There was a guy on the radio 4 giving a perfect example of globalisation and its effect on the great unforgotten. So people want cheaper cars ok get that but the other effect of globalisation is....

Cars used to be built in flint, Michigan whose people had jobs and money and pride , they also had clean drinkable water.

A few years ago the car factory was shut and moved to Mexico to a town that never had drinking water. Now that town in Mexico has jobs, pride and money and they now have drinkable water.

Meanwhile in flint they do not have drinkable water to pump to the people anymore, never mind jobs.

You don't need a college degree to understand why you might fall for trumps rhetoric given background like this.

Yes, understandable, but unfortunately, shit happens. Whilst the people on the receiving end might reasonably rail against it, if you have inherently uncompetitive industry, propping it up with subsidies or protectionism doesn't work. Unless you want full-on communism and are happy to put up with shoddy, unreliable and overpriced products.

Trying to compete with China on what is often low cost, low value-added manufacturing is stupid. The real irony is that Republicans generally understand this. You'd expect the Democrats to be promising false hope to these uncompetitive industries, not the Republicans.

Everyone who i know that voted Brexit, i ask them directly - what particular Law has the EU imposed on us that made you want to vote out.

They couldn't answer it.
You hang around with other thick cockneys then.

To answer TTIP and CAP would be the first two off the top of my head.

No big deal either way for me mate, and no doubt countless others,we all live in a fucked up world, and now the Yanks are no different to the rest of us,as they have led to believe for far too long
lol, well put. For so long the 'american dream' has been sold as the answer to the worlds problems - turns out it's actually a bit of a nightmare...

But if you haven't got a job and your towns to shit you gonna vote against the status quo.

I don't disagree with your point it just highlights why people would vote for such a loon.

Agreed. I'd perhaps do the same if faced with living in some of those derelict towns in the "rust belt". Have you seen those places? Jesus, it makes Liverpool look like Monaco.

Yeah why should racism and racists and homophobia and homophobes be thought of as subhuman scum. Good point.

Doesn't really answer my point.

Are you suggesting that only people who subscribe to your point of view should be allowed to vote.
How would this be policed? Would everyone have to register with you?

So just to get this straight, the liberal and lefties are in a tizzy because the candidate backed and funded by Goldman Sachs has lost despite the media bias and big business interests piling in on her side.

The winner who is supposedly to the right of Genghis Khan did so because the american working classes voted for him.

Funny old world aint it ;0)

If you can believe the breakdown of the polls, those earning under $50k a year voted for Hillary. Those over and above voted for Trump.

It wasn't a straight forward working class revolt.

It was largely white, rural and bolstered by 26% of Hispanics for some weird reason.

R.E.A.C.H accreditation is a useless eu directive where i paid 700 quid to get it, never even heard the name since, any labeling or people checking etc etc, nothing not a single peep since we paid for it and nobody seems to use it. That was a useless direct tax on my fathers company and the eu iso accreditation that enabled company's to force me to legally defend our companies intellectual property which of course costs money. I should add the business we are in already has strict protocols for stuff like delivering xyz chemical and these laws/directives did nothing to help besides act as a tax and add a forest of red tape.

So there are two from me :-D that said we are going slightly off topic here i think.

Kinda hoping that this is like some boxing matches - where after the trash talk and attempts to knock the others head off, each embraces the other in respect...a uniting in the name of true freedom

Personally an IQ test with a minimum pass mark of 100 (mean average) would be a good start. Then we wouldn't have half the votes cast by people below mean average intelligence.

They wouldn't need to register with me, I'm sure a panel could be set up. I'm rather busy as it is.

To answer your question seriously, no, perhaps we can't ban idiots and people with ghastly views from voting and this is the problem with democracy. As Churchill said "the best argument against democracy is a conversation with the average voter".

Ps, if racists or homophobes aren't a problem for you then have a good evening and I'd rather not bother conversing with you going forward.

25% of hispanics voted Republican last time around anyway. Could be a case of they are documented and want to pull the ladder up before they themselves get undercut.

Is there not a conflict of interest here.surely he will do whatever helps his own businesses,he is not going to do anything to damage his own business brand

I think a huge problem the USA has going forward is its Constitution, which has had two meaningful amendments in the last 80 years. It may have worked effectively at previous points in US history, but there is no immutable law of the universe that states that should be the case ad infinitum; although listening to many Americans you'd think that there was.

Any suggestion of substantially changing it, never mind stripping it down and building it up again, is met with howls of derision - one only need to look at the second amendment to see that - and so it's difficult to see anyone being able to get any momentum for the foreseeable behind tackling an issue which is hampering America and will increasingly do so as the world continue to change before our eyes.

It's unweildy, anachronistic and not remotely equipped to deal with America's place in the modern world - and yet it's a holy cow - a very dangerous cocktail and one which will limit the United States' ability to retain its place as a global superpower.

Some maybe be not all, it was a very close result. And if you take the oldest bigots out of the equation, I think there is not enough pressure on political parties for there to have even been a vote in the first place. If a small percentage of old bigots were killed off in the spring, we'd still be in the EU, irrespective of how some of the 70's folk changed.
If you only allowed people who have earned the right to vote by working and paying taxes, some of them for nearly 50 years then the OUT vote would have been even bigger.

Why should school children and university/college people be allowed to vote in the first place?
