Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Well good luck to him in that sense, but I live near an area in which Fowler owns nearly own the privately let houses, and it is a horribly neglected shithole and many of the houses are not fit for inhabitation. Hugely off topic, sorry. Carry on!

My sister's landlord when she was at Oxford was Martin Keown, I think he's got a proper student-let empire going on down there. House was pretty good actually, he even came round himself to try and fix the washing machine before getting a replacement.

You could always dissect a post or two Francois rather than offer non-specifics. Crack on with mine if you like..... ;-)

Will do exeter. I have been a bit put on recently so not had chance to give it the response it deserves. As others have said an excellent post.

Do you genuinely think Sterling is treated no differently than any other player?

Sorry Ric my original post was a bit flippant as it was written during a very short respite from work.

I think Raheem has had the rough end of the stick of late but I do not see the racial context or him playing for us and not United/Pool, as deciding factors in his treatment.

Well known footballers, particularly English internationals, are always under heightened scrutiny and I would say Raheem, like Rooney fall into that bracket. He is certainly treated differently to Gary Cahill, but I would say so is Rooney. I would not say race plays a part in that differential.

It is a bit of a strange time in English football as they really is not a megastar like a Beckham etc to chuck over the front pages every weekend. Most players are keeping there heads below the parapet and was probably the reason Rooneys recent misdemeanour was so well documented and sensationalised.

I agree with the wider point though that Raheem is badly treated but I would also include a number of footballers within that, including United players. The stories, in particular, about Lovrens personal life I thought were disgusting of late. The poor bloke must have been going through a tough time and could not have been helped by the breakdown of his marriage being splashed across the front pages. I think for newspapers their desire to write filth transcends race, football allegiance. I think everyone is fair game.

Frank, we exchanged a few pm's over the festive period after I asked why all things agenda seem to have to be run by you for your approval. You stated then and have since stated that folk attempt to goad you by tagging you into the various debates surrounding agendas and you would rather they didn't. You were wrongfully (in my opinion) banned from the post Chelsea thread because folk were tagging you after some eyebrow raising decisions in the match, which led to your thread ban making it impossible to respond to my question about you approving any agendas. Hence the reason for the pm's. I even raised this wrongful thread ban with the site owner who agreed you had been harshly treated and, I think he removed the thread ban? Then here we are - nobody has tagged you or goaded you into commenting today, I just don't understand? Whilst I agree some folk are looking for anything and everything to prove an agenda against us, some folk see some agenda in some things and no agenda in other circumstances. Not everything is as black or white as you, and the folk on the other side of the debate like to make out. I'm not a fully paid up member of the agenda, far from it but I do see some things that make you think. I even pulled up the self titled "biggest non conspiracy theorist on the site", who doesn't believe in anything conspiratorial in off topic and very rarely misses the opportunity to ridicule folk whenever anything but the official line is explored but believes wholeheartedly that everyone is out to get MCFC or help the rags to dominate. Whilst it is your right to post what you like on any topic, I feel disappointed I fell for your lines about being goaded and wasted my time sticking up for you.

Thanks for the post. I only highlight people tagging me when I respond to a message and get attacked for being a Wum or posting on the thread and therefore highlight I have been asked to post. Like everyone I still like posting on threads and at the minute the more popular threads are agenda related.

My initial post was a bit flippant and your comment about seeing things in black and white possibly has an element of truth as Exeter Blue highlighted this also.

For me I can agree Raheem Sterling does get treated differently to say Gary Cahill, but not too differently to other major football stars. You highlighted earlier that this was not a good analogy due to Rooneys misdemeanours but in all reality do you really think the moral virtue of a footballer influences the press if they have a story? Or even that it should which in essence would be trial by media.

For me I do not like the treatment of Sterling by the press or how they have treated other players either, regardless of which club they represent. It might sound black and white but I have not seen such a significant difference in reporting on Sterling than other players to suggest a bias against City players. Particularly not in the article posted.

He is certainly treated differently to Gary Cahill, but I would say so is Rooney. I would not say race plays a part in that differential.
Bad example there, Cahill is white English while Sterling is from a black Jamaican family and Shrek is a scouser.

This is getting a bit weird now. The other week he was getting grief for shopping at Poundland, today The Mail are having a go at him for having three garages in his new house. Won't link to the article, but pretty sure no white footballers are subjected to the same scrutiny. It's all a bit sinister.
I'm afraid he crossed the line. He had the audacity to leave the scouse rags and he will never be forgiven. I say that a little tongue in cheek but wouldn't be surprised if there were some truth in that

It started with scouseports news soccer Saturday without one condemnation of the tweets about his family

That bloke on talksport really started it,the horse botherer guy,he was telling all the listeners that they must boo raz wherever he goes and thats what happened and he deserved everything he gets, bullying a kid through the media and it hasn't let up since, grown men should be ashamed of themselves

The Mirror are at it again, tweeting about him 'slashing his house price AGAIN after struggling to sell'. There's definitely something sinister in this and sadly it appears to be just because he's young, black, earning a lot of money and possibly because he plays for us. It's bang out of order and I hope our club are looking after our players.

I actually think it's more to do with who he plays for than racism. They hate us, they're scared of us, and not only did Raheem leave one of the media's darling clubs for us, he's also fucking brilliant and arguably the best young player in the country.

Horse botherer? Now that is definitely something to be ashamed of. Beastiality and animal cruelty are definitely worse than having three garages or shopping in Poundland. Who is this equine fiddler, we should pillory him on social media for pleasuring horses every time he picks on our Raz. Doesn't have to be true, just embarrass the sad **** and belittle him, it's what most of the cockney/rag media wankers deserve anyway, the fucking horse shagging pricks.

Why do none of them ever have a go back at these media pricks? They have more than enough money to pay all sorts of people to sort them out, either legally in court, or perhaps rather less so in a dark car park somewhere.

Mickey something,he has a history of mistreating horses,he is vile and really went for raz when he wanted to leave the dippers, hate the ****

Its generally a mystery and how these people who write vile rubbish sleep at night. Can you imagine having a job where your sole purpose is to dig dirt on people to hurt them and their families?

They clearly have no morals or scruples but then the phonehacking scandal proved that.

Just in case anyone needed another update on Sterling's properties:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/manchester-city-striker-raheem-sterling-9686175

Even other journalists are picking up on it:

The sports journalists whipped up a frenzy about him over his transfer and now when their peers in the celebrity gossip section have taken up the baton, they step back and talk about what poor form it is.

People like Tony Barrett, actually specifically Tony Barrett willingly peddled the Liverpool line about what a money grabbing, disrespectful bastard Raheem was, deliberately whipped up a witch hunt about the 20 year old boy who took on Liverpool football club, guaranteed that only Liverpools side of the story was heard and now he has the fucking nerve to speak out about the continuation of the media frenzy he instigated.

I have nothing but contempt for that tweet and the man.

Sounds about right. Tabloid journalists are fucking scum.

Think you're mistaking Barrett for someone else. He was fairly defensive of Sterling from what I can recall:
