Media persecution of Raheem Sterling

Its generally a mystery and how these people who write vile rubbish sleep at night. Can you imagine having a job where your sole purpose is to dig dirt on people to hurt them and their families?

They clearly have no morals or scruples but then the phonehacking scandal proved that.

As you say, they have no morals, so writing shit about people comes easily to them I assume. Which is why the only way to deal with them is to fight fire with fire; drag them through court or beat the living shit out of them.

This is getting a bit weird now. The other week he was getting grief for shopping at Poundland, today The Mail are having a go at him for having three garages in his new house. Won't link to the article, but pretty sure no white footballers are subjected to the same scrutiny. It's all a bit sinister.
are the garages for cars or for stuff that overflows from his house like the majority of people in the UK?

Its a real shame for those journalists who risk death, injury visiting war-torn countries, in far flung places, to bring us the news to be associated with these vile creatures.

Its a mystery how they get away with it and ex-pros actually write columns for them knowing how they have treated their colleagues. Its a pretty twisted world out there

Anyone who thinks that the press does not favour certain clubs and promote certain agendas need to wake up. This whole Sterling character assassination was created by Liverpool when they tried to bully him into staying. They have a lot to answer for IMO as they have driven an agenda which has hammered a young lad at every opportunity.

Just compare the difference in reporting in Sterling and Milner to see the bias. Both were England internationals at the time and both City and Liverpool wanted to keep them before they left.

One leaves on a fee transfer and claims its because he wants first team football in CM (that's despite playing regularly for City albeit on the wing) gets praised by everyone and ends up playing LB.

The other leaves for £40 million and claims its because he wants to play at the top level. Gets slagged off by the whole country and accused of being a mercenary benchwarmer and goes on to nail a starting place in his favoured position and is playing regular CL football.

Now I wonder what reason there could be for the huge media disparity between the reporting of the two transfers.

Think you're mistaking Barrett for someone else. He was fairly defensive of Sterling from what I can recall:

https://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2015...reedy-what-does-that-make-footballs-fat-cats/

No, it's Barrett who is closer than close to Liverpool and the one who the fans take as gospel.

I'm not saying he personally wrote hatchet jobs about Sterling but he made sure every single aspect of the transfer, from liverpools offers to reported demands of Aidy Ward (before he went public) that Liverpool wanted to be out there was out there.

He and his colleagues would release and write about every tidbit of gossip around the transfer that Liverpool would give them, knowing full well that there was an agenda behind Liverpools release of information.

I agree that others went further and perhaps played up more to the moral outrage, but he was still a big part of the machine which built and stoked this fire.

You must be off your head if you get upset about about what goes on with tabloids, clickbait websites or Twitter. Re-posting it on here is exactly what they want. Come on, get a grip lads.

It's a bit weird though, you must admit. In the past 24 hours alone we've had stories about Sterling buying a house with three garages, having to reduce the asking price on a house he is selling, and that his car is dirty. Why is he coming under such scrutiny?! It's absurd.

Journos hanging round his house hoping hell give them an interview about being a mercenary and a crap footballer not getting what they want? I'm wondering if he has snubbed gutter media royalty at some point and this is their revenge?

It is, and you can guarantee this wouldn't be happening had he joined one of the media darling's sides.

Beyond a joke now.

*FACEPALM*
I've read the entire story online, I know I shouldn't have but I was that gobsmacked.. and the "story" is even more ridiculous than you can imagine.

There's another one about Maureen shaving his head and that it's a tactical masterclass having a dig a Pep, because he said he can grow new hair within a month unlike other people.

I think they're doing it intentionally because there's been a few articles this week about how City supporters feel the club is being targeted in the media.

Keep it fucking coming.
There had to be someone keeping a catalogue of all these stupid articles and a comparison with utd in how they are portrayed?

Oh, and one for the referees decisions as well.

Pretty weak revenge to be honest, these stories are bizarre in that they're all focusing on Raheem but they're just filler. No one cares, not even the readers. There's a vote on the mirror article and the leading answer is "It's not even dirty".

I think possibly they're just exploiting him being in the spotlight because of the Spurs penalty claim, or possibly the paparazzi are trying to get shots of him and or his girlfriend with the new baby and are following him about more.

Just low level stalking and harrasment then? Doesn't seem to court attention in the way say Mario did, so it's out of order as far as I can see

We should get angry, how do you think raz is feeling since he was cast as evil for leaving the dippers,he has had pressure from everyone everyday and even blamed for the england crap in the summer,i know i would crack under such pressure week on week,it's grown men bullying a kid,it's not acceptable

I imagine he doesn't go on the Daily Star's website, he's an a top professional footballer and adult. You might think about developing a thicker skin.
Every single pundit and football show has been at him for the last couple of years,if you don't think that affects him then good for you

Ever since his £49 million move from Liverpool in the summer of 2015, Raheem Sterling has been the focus of intense scrutiny and has been jeered up and down the country, despite doing very little wrong. The transfer might have left a sour taste in the mouths of Liverpool fans, but it shouldn't have affected supporters of other clubs as it seems to have done.

A poor Euro 2016 from Sterling was almost the final nail in the Englishman's coffin, as it ensured he'd be the pantomime villain for some time longer.

However, it's getting difficult not to wonder if Sterling is being unfairly penalised because of the narrative that has built around him. Some of the worst refereeing decisions that City have suffered in the last 18 months have all involved the winger and they've all been inside the penalty area.
