Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

Nope....he'll play the league cup game but our chances of winning significantly decrease when Phillips is on the pitch. I would go as far as to say that we have close to zero percent chance of winning at the emirates if Phillips plays the whole game. I don't know how you can look at the likes...

Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

Nobody is saying that Phillips didn't meet the criteria for receiving a medal. Just like Scott Carson or Sergio Gomez met the criteria. And if that's your standard for "deserving it", then that's fine. But let's not pretend like Phillips played a single meaningful minute for us last season.

Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

He played no part in getting those medals. And he knows it. I doubt he will be bragging about his medals anytime soon.... His bank account however....

    Matheus Nunes

Sure, but this is a player that peaked at 3 league goals in a season playing for Sporting in Portugal. All i'm saying is that he probably won't be getting many goals or assist here either.

    Matheus Nunes

Seems more like a Kovacic type. A deep lying midfielder who will play close to Rodri. Much needed depth there but probably won't add much in the final 3rd.

And i suspect Kalvin won't mind. It's a Eden Hazard at Madrid or Maguire at the rags situation for him. Both want to "fight for their place" according to the media.

Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

Giving him a 6-year deal was a brain dead move. The club is stuck with him in a similar way the rags are stuck with Maguire. I suspect "fight for his place" just means that he is comfortable not playing and picking up his paycheck.

    Aymeric Laporte

Rico Lewis is the Cancelo replacement. Gvardiol replaces Laporte. Our numbers in defence are good, midfield and the wings? Not so much....

Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

Kovacic has kinda exposed him. The difference in quality is stark.

    Aymeric Laporte

There wasn't a huge demand for Laporte. It's as simple as that. The club is in no position to ask for more given that we are clearly willing to sell. Same as Cancelo...

Kalvin Phillips | On loan at West Ham

I thought a lot of Philips comments post-season were delusional. Like he was trying to convince himself rather than his doubters. The comments about being "close to getting it" in regards to what Pep demands look a bit silly. I'm sure he is a nice guy but lacks in ability and mentality to play...

Match Thread | Man City vs Yokohama (22/07/23)

A nice lad but unfortunately it's been evident for a while that he doesn't have the quality to play for city.

It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

Nah. The briefing is gonna be: "City feel they have enough cover in Stones, Akanji and Lewis".

    Riyad Mahrez

From a financial point of view, getting a good fee for a 32-year old and then investing that towards a younger top quality replacement would be ideal. But i'm unsure if that player exists in this market.

    Josko Gvardiol

100m euros i can kinda understand. But bonuses on top of it? That's insane.
  16. B

    Josko Gvardiol

Agreed. The only counter argument i have is that we have some very strong left sided defenders already. So the improvement short term might be marginal, and has more to do with depth/options.

It's Quiet 18 - Wanna ring the bell?

No European club is going to pay 100m+ for Bernardo. So if he wants to leave, his only option will be Saudi. We were also willing to spend 90m+ on Rice (and Bellingham) without any outgoings...strange.

    Gabri Veiga

Sé honesto, do you think he is good enough at the age of 21 to play for the best team in the world and current treble winners, under the tutelage of the greatest manager of all time: Pep Guardiola?

Don't get me wrong, i think our recruitment is good, but not without flaws. How many managers other than Pep would have won the league with Gundogan as our top scorer? Same with the full-back situation...where Pep has continued to find solutions (Delph, Zinchenko, Ake, AKanji etc...). This is...

I think if we have a big drop off in the future (and that's a big if). The blame has to be laid on the board. A part of me believes that Pep's genius (and him being the best manager of all time) has covered some of the flaws in our recruitment.
