One of the most overrated players in our squad.

With time on the ball, and where purely conventional defending is required,he looks the part.Put him up against pace or trickery and he gets found out.

Get Stones back in soonest.
His first season was unquestionably his best and most effective , since his knee injury he hasnt looked the same player , a couple of seasons ago Stones was making similar mistakes as Laporte did today and he has come back stronger , so i am not writing off Laporte just yet, still a valuable member of the squad. The Dias/Stones partnership has looked unbeatable since Dias arrived , will be nice to see them back together for the Derby game against the geriatric Rag forwards.

Very harsh. He had a bad game today but he's done great for us. I suspect you might have been saying the same about Stones against these same opponents 2 years ago.
You'd be wrong,so please don't join the 'making shit up to add weight to your opinion' club.

It isn't harsh at all,he is a good player but he is very overrated on this board. His performances in the Euro's,in a poorer defence, showed him up for the player he is.

100%

Stones/Dias were fast becoming the best partnership in Europe, they need to be reinstated and thankfully, through lack of choice.....they will be.

As said,Laporte is a top centre half but he isnt on the same level as the above two and he does have weaknesses that quite a few refuse to acknowledge.

Had a complete mare today. He has paved the way himself for Stones to take the starting CB spot back.

His first season was impeccable he didnt put a foot wrong but his standards have definitely dropped , but when you look through the blue tinted specs you tend to remember how good he can be , he's got away with a couple this season but we paid the price today
So its Dias and Ake against the Rags :)

He's still a very, very good CB in my eyes when all is said and done. Just a bit too error prone in this moment for him to be at his best (which is on him).

I'm not arguing against Laporte's poor performance, and the defending was 100% bad for the red card. I just meant that if Cancelo had been in a respectable position the ref wouldn't have been able to give the red.

Cancelo of course had his bag of troubles too besides that.

That's a big issue with Cancelo , his positioning is absolutely shite too often .

Laporte did everything yesterday to make team loose the points..

I don't want to be irrational here, but mistake that leads to the goal and a stupid red card in addition to that ? WTF man ???!!!!!

Pep won't accept it and shouldn't - John Stones should be fully returned back and played like last season.

If Stones is getting back in, Zinchenko will probably come back too.
I can't even see Pep playing 4 right footed players in the backs on a regular basis.
Going off laportes and cancelo performances yesterday i would certainly be making changes with stones and zinchenko to come in.

Don’t think Cancelo was particularly bad. Nowhere near his best going forwards but Zinky offers absolutely fuck all going forwards anyway. Unless Foden is on the left that’s a big problem as nobody else can ever go on the outside of a fullback

I'm not sure it is just the injury. Remember the CL against Spurs? And that was his first season which as you say was his best. He's kinda like Stones used to be - always a big error in him especially against pacy, tricky forwards.

Sorry bud, just not true. Look at his second leg performance against PSG for instance. Which was probably our biggest game last season (given the final took place after)
