When you hear him speak you can understand why he gets voted captain players know you can make mistakes as a player so when they vote it's not what we see it's what he does in the dressing room! Think Lewis will play 30 game and Walker will play about the same again

Maybe I’m wrong but when I hear him speak ‘which he’s done a lot of in last 12 months’ I think he sounds like an idiot but before that he led by example which is why I think he was voted captain not for an motivational speeches

I think it’s one of those things where you feel you have to vote for your mate/the senior player.
We have used it to get more out of him but it hasn’t worked and he just isn’t the right guy

But If walker offers no better defence then take a risk with Lewis
Newcastle have Anthony Gordon next week so if lewis plays walker really is toast

Pace is Walkers main attribute, seems to have lost a bit and his reading of the game is poor, comes to far up the pitch when playing against pacy teams……

I think Rico is great and I'd prefer him over Walker at this point, but I'd also prefer Walker to deal with the pace of Martinelli. That was basically the reason Walker was on the pitch.

Martinelli and Calafoliori would have broken Rico down easily. Great developing talent but still lacking some of the physicality required

Not sure how you can watch us attempt to break that ugly Arsenal block and not feel we didn't need Rico. It was crying out for his intelligence.

There was no lines to pass inbetween, it was a solid double block inside their own box. We didn't need intricate passing, that was never going to break them down. Rico would have come on if we needed it.

At least he took responsibility for marking Gabriel, which is my attempt at spinning a slight positive for that set-piece goal. Whether he was the right man to do that is up for debate.

I think Pep was pencilling in Lewis for the Watford game on Tuesday. He probably was expecting more attacking down the flanks v Arsenal.

Was surprised Rico wasn't introduced, but questions over Walker's captaincy are bizarre. The players vote and they know him far better than any of us, so it's not worth worrying about. His performances have dropped significantly since the treble. He's allowing his wide player too much space, often looking to appeal for offside rather than play to the whistle - which was how Real got their nose in front in the CL last season and is caught out of position fairly regularly. Rico's far better in terms of his positional awareness and far better on the ball.

For the ref to call Walker over and ask him to calm the side down, and then not allow him to get back into position before re-starting the game was ridiculous though. That's not on Walker. And I think the pivotal moment which led to the squad picking him as captain was his speech before the CL final when he wasn't selected. I think they really admired him for that.

People voted for Boris Johnson, doesn't mean it was a good decision.

Walker being captain makes a mockery of the role.

Yep! Kyle is still a top PL defender. There are limits to his game as there are limits to everyone's game, and he's still got pace, not as much as he had, and he was way quicker on a couple of occasions when the Arse threaten ed to take the ball into our half instead of just aimlessly booting it for touch!
