30th April 1994 - The Kippax's Last Stand

Don't think it's the stadiums just people fans that have changed. Remember that viral video of Liverpool fan complaining about anfield being soulless five six years ago

You could never replace the sound of coins thrown by the opposition rebounding off the rafters just before hitting you on the head or the warm spray of bottled piss thrown and shattering in the rafters.
It was my home from the day I started watching City until the day it was pulled down.
The greatest standing area ever in my opinion.
Correct. It felt like home to me ,every two weeks.i caught the last 6 years of Maine Road with the Kippax terrace.as an out of town Blue I just felt very much at home.sounds wierd, but was perfectly natural to me.i was made welcome. That short time of 1987/88 season ,to the final day..I have to say were the best experiencesof my life.id followed City from afar as a kid.standing on that terrace meant so much to me.i absolutely loved it.and the passion the noise, the crack when it wasn't a big game or not on it was brilliant.....when it was a big game ,you knew about it.When the half decent Liverpool team turned up in the late 80s one Tuesday night, you could feel it in the air we were having em.The atmosphere was incredible, electric,David White was up for it.The whole team was up for it.The kippax was ready, the whole ground was Bouncing...We beat them 2-1. Thought the roof was gonna come off after the 2nd goal. Can still feel the buzz on that one all these years later.
I cried when the stand was knocked down.i was one of the very last to leave the terrace on the last game.i could mot believe they were gonna knock it down.WTF? Why?!! Goverment and Football.not a good mix.
Never been the same watching Football since.Ripped the heart out of the home support.i can only imagine what it was like
In a there when we had decent side late 70s,and of course lthe great ate 60s ....
I still don't know why it had to be knocked down.it was everything to me.i miss it to this day.

I'll never forget the feeling walking into the Kippax.
Started going in 84/85.
Charlton game was about my 5th or 6th game.
I remember just watching the Kippax and nagging me old man to take me in there.
Start off near est to the north stand on that wall near the front.
Gradually got closer and closer till we ended up behind the tunnel next to away fans.
What an experience.

thatcher.
Football fans joined together (possibly for the first time) and defeated her ridiculous ID Card for football fans scheme.
The Taylor Report then gave her the opportunity she was looking for to get revenge for her humiliating ID card defeat.

Yeah I knew Thatcher was behind it and my question really was one of despair..ie why did something so great have to come to an end.why ? More a feeling of despair really.

I remember looking at the rubble which was the kippax terrace in later weeks and feeling completely lost/ angry.something great and special had been taken away from me.it felt like home, and the 7 years I stood on it amount to some of the greatest years in my life..Hard to explain to others who never experienced it,or who just look at our current success and wonder what all the fuss is about.
