I thought he had another good game,not quite the masterclass he produced against a far inferior Andorra.....but still heavily influential and always dangerous,its a shame some of his play wasn't better rewarded.

His overall game is improving rapidly,he is now a genuine presence and making better choices.......soon to be a real contender for that Ballon d'Or.
 
Some Foden observation from last game as midfielder.

Positive: Man can pick out a pass like silva when forwards make a run for him.

Negatives: Often took the wrong position to receive the ball. needs to learn better positioning as a mid and that will come with time and experience.

Struggled to get on the ball in the right areas last night, but that was more to do with how Hungary setup and England failed to break the lines. Also noticed so many times that players could of passed to him and they just turn away with the ball and play an easy 5 yard pass to someone else. Rice was so bad for that and also noticed Walker do it quite a few times which suprised me.
 
Didn't see enough of the ball but one of the only ones with Grealish who looked dangerous when they had it. His passing is always spot on, perfect weight. I mean every pro players should be but so many aren't.

Ward-Prowse is so much better than Rice, I think that was the main difference in the 2 games.

One is forward thinking with a wide range of passing and excellent sense of when to play a pass, the other is terrified of doing anything with the ball.

As a result Foden, Mount & co. got very little good, early ball. Foden in that Andorra game would drop deep, get the ball in a pocket of space, turn and run. Last night Rice was so scared to pass him the ball that the Hungarian midfield had already closed down the space he was creating by the time he got possession.

The team looked great on paper but it didnt quite click.Southgate should have identified and addressed the issues at HT,he didnt.

Like i said though,he was still the most likely to do some damage and now very much looks at home on the International stage.

I thought Rice was exposed to being just an average DM, he follows the ball and is not a very good reader of the game. He likes to be aggressive and dive into challenges which is fine when he has another DM alongside him.

He would be terrible in the Rodri role for City at this present time. He certainly has the potential but needs good coaching to get to that level
 
Newcastle offer £500,000,000 for him....



I guess that says who the next squad rebuild is being moulded around.

It's tough to say who's to blame for that. Usually positioning is due to the actual set up as opposed to a player's autonomy.

Not so sure about that. Think Rice is a good player and ok last night. An issue for me is that Mings was dreadful on the ball and very little cute or incisive passing from the back. Can only remember Stones playing one of them. Also Mount was poor as Sterling and Kane so I think the flat display was mainly due to this

it was kind of both. the team was not giving him the ball. so he should have adjusted to get more of the ball. he was hanging around in tight areas and asking for the ball like marhez of kdb will give him. he should have known it was england haha and adjusted accordingly but he is still a baby in terms of midfielders and he has plenty of time to learn.

Spot on. Rice was fine for me. Mings and Mount the bigger issues.
 
Quiet game but I thought Burnley defended well. At the end of the day he's a center-midfielder, not a winger/false 9.
 
Played too safe on the left first half. Thought he looked better second half when he was moved central. Still prefer him in midfield with Grealish on the left.
