McAtee and Gundogan aren't fighting for game time.
Pep has got to give McAtee his chance…Gundogan can’t play every game.

His link up play was very silky in the 20 mins he had last night and there is definitely a player in there.

We cannot make the same mistake that we made with Palmer (and it was a mistake however we try and a camouflage it)

We haven’t got much to complain about as City fans but I fail to understand why he is not given more of a chance against the so called weaker teams.

I was glad to see Gundogan return but not at the expense of some of the younger talent.

Just one minute of PL football so far, and that’s with an injury crisis, us struggling to break down team and both Bernardo and Gundogan having below par seasons. His chances will be even more limited when De Bruyne and Bobb are back so he probably needs a loan in January.

Same as with Foden and Palmer. One ended well, one didn’t. One was malleable and deferential, the other less patient and forgiving.

I’ve no idea how capable this guy is but nor do I see him in training. If he’s good enough for the (injury-hit) squad, he needs to get more than 30 seconds here and there. He doesn’t expect to be a regular starter.

Still, we stand to get a few million for him at the end of the season.

Sure the money will be nice, but I always hope ( a romantic fantasy perhaps ) to see the more talented young players advance into the first team and get a chance to show their ability.

McAtee has said the right things but inwardly must be disappointed not to have had more game time, especially when the team has injury issues atm.

Hopefully he gets a game at Spurs and has a good game .

Or against one of the goat-herder teams in the CL.

Something I like with James is he has a natural drop of the left shoulder so can go outside when needed so I think he can play quite a few positions inside or outside very well .

He's a tidy player, but I've never thought he would 'make it' with us....he hasn't got that extra something that Foden, Lewis, and some bloke at Chelsea had. Looked the weakest of the academy lads tonight, which in his position (career wise) he shouldn't be.

I genuinely don’t know what people expect. First half he’s playing as a number 10 - but Foden is offering nothing in front of him and Gundogan is having an absolute stinker behind him. And then when Foden went off he was clearly asked to play as a lone striker which is a complete waste of his talents.

Palmer was consistently played out of position (most of his games were either on the right wing or a a false 9) and people used to say the same things about him too.

Doesn’t look good enough to me for our side
But we have to remember he is fighting against the best players in the world
Making it at City is very very difficult
Looks a step too far for him
Time will tell I guess

Feel for the lad. Since the Watford game he’s been stuck on the bench, save for 20+ minutes each against the two European sides, so that was his first full run out in over a month. He should probably have started both those European games, given how weak these opponents are, but his game time is limited to when the rest can get the three-goal cushion Guardiola feels he needs. And, alas, we rarely put teams away early these days. Even tonight, he had the misfortune of being pushed up after Foden went off, and the chances that fell later for us landed in the position he had been asked to vacate and Wright found himself in. McAtee just needs more game time with us and it looks like he’ll get it.

First of all. Needs massive credit for the goal, it's his smart run across that drags the defender to free up the back post, without that run, we don't score that goal.

However, he's not having enough of an impact. Really don't want to keep saying the same thing about him but it's true, he just doesn't get himself involved anywhere near enough. Produces some lovely touches when he does get on the ball but never going to progress here until he starts getting himself involved more and that's on him to find better spaces and demand the ball. I genuinely assumed he'd gone off at one point in the second half. He's undoubtedly got the talent to be here, got to find his role.
