I’d be very interested in knowing how many MINUTES these other players played to get their numbers, because in the era of 5 subs, Haaland gets yanked in games other players couldn’t/wouldn’t in the era of 1 sub or 3 subs!

Feels like MINUTES PER GOAL is a much better, and fairer, statistic across the numerous footballing eras.

Haaland is second only to Messi in the modern era in that stat. 1.1 non penalty goals per 90. Messi hit 1.2 in 2012/13.

If you include penalties they’re both on 1.3 goals per 90. What Haaland is doing right now is bettered by nobody.

-Salah 17/18: 44 goals, 46 90s
-RVN 02/03: 44 goals, 48 90s
-HAALAND 22/23, 42 goals, 32 90s
-CR7 07/08: 42 goals, 46 90s
-Cole 93/94, 41 goals, 45 90s
-Kane 17/18, 41 goals, 44 90s

He is lethal at the moment. His quickness off the mark is incredible and the space and movement he creates is top notch and is being noticed a lot more by the team.

His first two goals were brilliant, a nice ball put through and he just so quick and a lovely little flick finish.
The play by Foden for his second and third was brilliant too, that cross and shot were superb and he was there to put them in with great finishes.

42 goals in the middle of march, is insane!
Plus he had 4 weeks off due to the he world cup.

Mental

I predicted 25 goals? I guess I must have been :) trying to temper expectations. But clearly silly of me to not show more faith.

I couldn't be happier to have been wrong :)

Yeah mate, that’s fair enough, it was way back in August 2021 when it looked like it was Kane not Haaland we were signing. As you say you were most likely trying to play down Haaland and support Kane

I’m sure we’re all delighted with how amazing he is :)

I said he could score 50 league goal and 20 cup goals.

He cant score 12 goals in the next 11 league games and another 16 cup goals in 7 cup matches.

Or can he ?

8-)
Wouldn't he need 22 league goals from now until the end to get 50? He's on 28 now

40 is possible giving his ratio. I think around 36 or 37 is probably more realistic though and still record breaking in the premier league

Yes you are right he’d need 22 in 11 games
And the cup games he’d only need 6.

I think I was still drunk when I tried to worked that out.

Don't know if this has been mentioned (I guess it has in 409 pages)...

But everyone keeps going on about how he has this uncanny knack of always seeming to be in the right place at the right time to get his "tap ins". And sure that's true. He's amazing at it, along with being super fast, strong etc etc.

But what strikes me even more is just how incredible he is at actually scoring from these chances. So many of our players in the past (and some in the present, TBF), when finding themselves in front of goal with a golden chance, manage to fuck it up and blast it over, or straight at the keeper, or fall over the ball, or over-complicate it and the chance is lost. But Haaland? He hardly ever does this. He seems to have lightening reactions and BOOM and it's in the back of the net, time after time after time.

If the chances he had in the last couple games had happened to fall to any of our other players (maybe Alvarez aside) I reckon we'd have scored less than half of them.

That's what he brings to our team, FINALLY. Someone who can finish these chances off, reliably.

I agree with that and add to the bold bit, it's the quality of his finishing too as his technique is world class.

He can score all types of goals and in most cases, they are clinically finished. Also he just hammers some in and there aren't many fluffed shots.

Before he came i heard that heading wasn't a strong point of his, but i've seen, more than once, him get up and head the ball so hard. The header that led to the fifth goal against Leipzig being a great example, the power was incredible.

I luv watching this lad and i just think he'll get better and better, i can't wait!

You cant teach what Erling has , you can coach it, you can improve on it, you can adapt it but you cant instil it in someone if they were not born with it. Its the difference between a striker and a world class striker. We have seen it over the last few seasons with Sterling ( not a dig at Raheem ) good player who was not a natural goalscorer, so Pep tried to teach him to become more prolific in front of goal, and Pep did to a certain degree succeed, but goal scoring is not Raheems natural game and he would fluff goal scoring opportunities.
Erling is a different thing altogether he expects to score every opportunity he gets ,and if he does miss it doesn't faze him he moves onto the next chance with 100% belief that he will score. The missed opportunities dont shape the way he thinks about goal scoring chances to come in the game . The accusations of being a "tap in merchant " fails to understand the born ability to know where to be at the right place at the right time , hence all he has to do is "tap" it in. Pep will teach him lots over the next few seasons but he would never be able to teach him that born gift of scoring goals .

Aside from his goals, Erling is improving in every game of late.

He's dropping in to midfield, he is linking up a lot more and going for the returns.

Smart move from him and Pep, because teams were trying to isolate him and cut the supply.

Haaland is actually using his physical power and speed much more now.

An example.

I'd say he is very much like Ronaldo in that sense?

Ronaldo never really had the skills to dribble past six players like Messi, but put him inside the side yard box, and he rarely failed to convert.

Both men share the same ability to sense the goal and keep on their toes, waiting for the possibility of a rebound.

If Haaland improves upon his heading, he will be the complete package.

I've been thinkin about something..

Only Shearer and Haaland really know what it's like to join the WRONG TEAM and have tons of fun doing it with the chip on your shoulder because the media will never let them forget they joined the WRONG TEAM!

It's good that Jamie said it..
Will always motivate City and Erling!

(even if they don't acknowledge it publicly)
