Alcohol, hints, tips, advice etc.

Had 3 of these watching Arsenal game yesterday, best 210 calories I spent even though I did technically break my fast aswell

50 calories per City goal
I find about 3 is the limit but it’s a cracking drink and I wish more pubs would make available.

I’ve done dry March and April so far, mostly to improve my health to age (64 next week) ratio, the Guinness Zero is a great alternative.

Yes agree, I couldn’t have had a 4th, one for pre match and one each half

Good job, keep after it!

16ilbs down, linked no alcohol with better eating, low carb, intermittent fasting; couldn’t feel any better right now.

Booked myself in for an MOT next week, they test a variety of things but includes liver scarring, plaque build up in arteries amongst a load of other things

Impressive mate, well done and great combination for weight loss

Out of interest how do you go about booking an MOT yourself?

The Liver scarring test is not routine, either a scan or invasive tests are usually required to diagnose if the liver has got to the cirrhosis (scarring) stage. Blood tests can determine if the liver is not functioning properly but a few weeks off alcohol can make a difference to the results so blood tests can be highly unreliable.

As stated you usually need to wait for an invite especially at the moment where resources are stretched. You could go private but it can be very expensive and in most cases you will need to be referred by your GP.

Top man cheers.

Called the GP and asked for one mate, but there are some things they don’t cover in their tests. Contacted blue crest health through work and that’s the one that’s next week.

GP one is end of May

I'm back in face to face therapy with a bloke I trust very much. Hadn't realised what a roller coaster I've been living until someone else said it to me. We will aim to get to the very root of my impulses, alcohol hasn't been my only issue. I suspect this will be difficult in places but I want to get it right. Done two days of home exercise and one night at the boxing club this week, and I'd also like to mention the power of sport and community.....never shown my face in there before, was welcomed like a friend.....older blokes, younger blokes, even a few blokes from the travelling community. All in one gaff together.

A milestone for me yesterday, 700 consecutive alcohol free days.

I think I've posted before that one of the reasons I chose to address my own unhealthy drinking habits was to try to support someone I was close to through their own battle with alcohol dependency.

Today would have been his 56th birthday and I'm missing him like mad. I lost him in January and its all still very raw. Unfortunately while he knew that all the medical and psychological help he could have wanted was available to him, he couldn't find it in himself to access it and engage with it.

So I just wanted take a minute to remind every one that if you want, or need help to reframe your thinking about drinking, don't be too afraid or too ashamed to reach out to someone. There are more people than you can imagine who would rather help you recover than potentially grieve your loss.

It gets remarkably and surprisingly easy to do no alcohol once you’ve done a week or so. Off to the pub today with a few mates to watch the game, everyone knows I’m on Diet Coke or water

I dont agree with you or feel the same.
I'm 57 days today.
just got home from Thailand yesterday, after spending a month there with my family and my wifes family,I was miserable most of the time because I wasn't drinking, her dad and brother drank most days and I wanted to too,but didnt.
I made a vow and promise to my son and wife 57 days ago and Iv managed to keep it.
Back to work tomorrow which i hate, and
City on weds, missed 4 home games in april and chomping at the bit to get back to see us play, but a big part will be missing and I will be indifferent when weds comes around,Im not out for sympathy or moaning,I just cant enjoy things if alcohol isn't involved.
That holiday we have just had was cancelled 3 years ago because of covid and it was also cancelled for us last jan 2022 cos the thais changed the entrance rules on kids.We haven't had a proper holiday for 7 years, i have to be honest,i was looking forward to it so much and it turned out a wet blanket, all because i wasn't drinking.
I hope this thought pattern changes, and changes soon.

No snacks, healthy eating & just 4 cans of % Guinness a week…..it’s a mystery why I’m not losing weight

What are your healthy snacks? Things like nuts, fruit & nut bars etc that are sold as healthy are really high in calories. Start weighing your food and try using MyFitnessPal app to see how many calories you’re eating, you might be shocked.

Aim for 1.5G of lean protein per KG in weight and do 8-10k steps a day, try to introduce some cardio and resistance training if you can. Weight will soon come off.

Many thanks for the advice……..not sure I’ve got the willpower to follow through…..

No one said it was going to be easy.
It's a hard habit to break.
I have been drinking (legally and illegally) for around 50 years and there are days when I just want to go and get hammered, but I resist.
It's hard sometimes but I know that the urge to drink will soon pass.

The realisation is important.

Realising that you are out of the loop.
Realising that it's other people who are making themselves look stupid and getting into scrapes.
Realising that you won't feel rough the next morning.
Realising that the time and money wasted in the bar can be spent with and on your family.
So best wishes for the battle ahead (and it is a battle!) and hopefully you won't stumble too many times.
Good luck.

I agree with all you say.
I know it makes sense.
But a part of me died when i stopped.
Its so funny what life throws at you.
That holiday was something that had helped to keep me going, when it finaly arrived and we went, I was miserable and
in bad moods most of the time.
Just so typical how things pan out for.me.
On a lighter note, our luggage didnt turn up at Manchester yesterday.
