Alcohol, hints, tips, advice etc.

That sounds horrendous mate, to think you’d gone too far, probably fearing death. Most of us have had hangovers that felt death was imminent but that’s on a different level, very best of luck to you.

Cheers bud. Yes, it was frightening. I'd never taken that much and thinking on, to do it in such heat was a really fucking stupid idea. I was convinced I'd overdosed. The alcohol certainly didn't help but I've done enough coke over the years to say that I think the newer stuff has something in it that can send you a bit loopy, again probably shouldn't have had two bags to myself but I've seen the uglier side now and it scared me. What's more, seems easier to get hold of than a bit of weed these days.

I don't have a problem as such with alcohol but would like to give it up one day because once I start, I don't know when to stop and I'm a pain in the arse when I'm pissed.

The social aspect of giving up is what puts me off. I wouldn't go on a night out with my mates if I wasn't drinking so feel I would see aot less of them.

Plus I get very nervous when City have a big game so feel like I need a couple of beers at least to calm the nerves.

I think I was in the same position as you a few years back.
I had a couple of alcohol free months as my blood pressure was high & it was an easy way to reverse it. I carried on going out with my mates but drinking soft drinks. Made me realise how repetitive the conversation got once they had a few beers, and I'm sure I'm the same!
I now only drink socially, only drinking around 6 pints a week, and tend to go for quality rather than quantity. I like to try loads of different real ales or craft beers with distinctive flavours rather than drink large quantities of bland beer.
And at football and gigs, I no longer drink. Seems pointless drinking flavourless beer just for the sake of it, and means I'm not having to empty my bladder on a regular basis, missing half the match or gig.

I’d normally be out watching City but I didn’t feel like it tonight. I’m next out socially on Friday but it’s pre-arranged with a sweetheart of a girl (we’re just mates) and I think that’s how it’s going to be for the moment. I’m getting bored of drinking.

I find about 3 is the limit but it’s a cracking drink and I wish more pubs would make available.

I’ve done dry March and April so far, mostly to improve my health to age (64 next week) ratio, the Guinness Zero is a great alternative.
Recently I was in Dublin and found myself in a pub which had Guinness 0% on draught.

Had 8 pints. Glorious stuff.

Woke up next morning fresh as a daisy.

Adnams Ghost Ship 0.5% is my other favourite.

Also most German low alcohol beers are great - the away CL games this season were great for it.

Yep, the Ghost Ship is a really good, hoppy beer with plenty of taste, really good alternative.

Paulaner Weissbier 0.0% is my favourite non-alcoholic beer. I agree entirely with your sentiments.

I’ve majorly cut down on my drinking and I don’t remotely miss it. I’d normally have been out on Tuesday for City and tonight to watch West Ham as our last other rep in Europe but I’ve followed both matches from home.

Friday and Saturday night would be a good session too but I’m very tempted just to stay in unless a talked about evening happens. Even then, my little mate has said she’s cut down too.

I apologise to the Wirral pubs I’m going to bankrupt.

I’ve had to put some effort back in again this week and not drink for the last few days, kicked in healthy eating and hitting gym every day as well (sometimes twice a day too) as just through circumstance found I’d drank far too much last week and through the bank holiday weekend, probably circa 50 pints consumed last week.

It’s just too easy to drink too much.

Fifty pints @ £4 a pint = £200 for a week.

£800 a month.

That's over £10,000 a year.

When rocked up in hospital, I was often grilled by the pros about all my habits. I was told 14 units of alcohol was now the recommended weekly limit. That’s 7 pints of average strength beer.

Yep, well aware of the costs mate. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on which way you look at it, not a big issue for me.
I’ve not had a drink since Monday and that’s only because I was at Swansea v West Brom and we watched the later matches. I’m not working at the moment and have managed to get so much done. I’ve money in the bank and time on my hands.

There’s so much more to life than getting pissed up, Rammy.

Day 31, happy to be here. Passing tests all the time. I'm not in a position where alcohol needs to be banned in the house, the mrs likes a glass of wine and visitors might enjoy a beer. I can ignore it and let people do as they like. Day by day, bit by bit. I just have to remind myself how it ends and I saw a pic of a bottle of Hennessy on another thread on here earlier......turned my gut as that was the last drink I had.

It's a while off but I predict a stern test to be the next time I am out with my friends back home. They won't peer pressure me, they've seen what I'm like. But these are lads I've been friends with for 20+ years since high school, and seeing them brings out my inner rogue...
