Alcohol, hints, tips, advice etc.

Is a British pisshead different to any other ?

It's bred into us from a very young age over here mate. Most of us have been down the pub or snooker hall since early or mid teens.

Then into adulthood, every single social event whether it be work, sporting, social, family, religious, all solely revolve around getting as pissed as you can as fast as you can.

Other cultures who like a drink also know when to stop. Germans can be similar to us, as are Russians, but they don't do the civilised thing of having pints in bars. They prefer to rob vodka from the local off-licence when abroad and smash the empty bottles on the pavements until the early hours. Go to Crete or Cyprus where Russians have bought up most of the local business and you'll see this (likely changed since Ukraine kicked off tbf).

I'm looking forward to doing dry January to be honest, sometimes you don't realise how much of a slippery slope alcohol can become, very quickly, like having a few cans every evening can quite easily lead to having 6, 7 and 8 etc, I can totally understand why people become dependent on it as it creeps up on you the amount you're drinking

Do you feel a lot better for it? Did you lose much weight etc too?

Have control over all of my decisions and have still been able to socialise. The ones who won't support it or understand it aren't your mates.

I'm about 2 stone (12kg) lighter at the moment, that's after putting a bit weight on. Healthier habits that have replaced unhealthy ones have played a part in that. My weight used to balloon during the football season with drinking pints at the games.

Sounds like a win win situation then to be fair mate, well done

Good on you blue, a decision I am so very close to myself.

I rarely is ever drink and don't ever crave it but when I do, socially with mates I get pissed as a fart and I'm fucked for days afterwards due to the fact i have been shown to be allergic to alcohol.

I don't need it, don't overly enjoy it so why fucking do it is the question I've asked myself and the only answer is to stop, completely.

Going on a cruise next month and I refused to buy the booze add on as I'm determined to not drink.

I know this is easier said than done, but just do what you want to do and fuck everyone else and what they think of you and your reasons for not drinking.
I’m coming up to 3 years in Feb not drinking. The reactions I’ve had from people are generally positive but occasionally even family members see my non drinking as a weird concept they can’t get their heads round and almost take it as a criticism of their own drinking habits.
I’ve recently been on a stag do for my now son in law and drinking never entered my head and most were accepting of the fact I didn’t. It doesn’t stop you having a good time and behaving like a kid (I always do anyway!) so crack on and do what you want.
Good luck if you do pack it in you’ll definitely feel the benefit.
Ps - I’m not suggesting for one minute you need to stop lol

I love a couple it really does take the edge off me as I’m very anxious (and I mean a couple I can have two sociable pints and stop no problem) Problem is the odd bender and they really depress me to be honest because a lot of it doesent agree with me and like the USA blue can make me sick for days.
I’m yet to find an alternative to a couple of cans though or I think I’d be off the ale….
