Apology to Klatenburg

sorry - the ref was right. Boyata was a sending off. Not dirty, but right. Fabregac was close to the edge, but no, fair, we got beat. The team looked more like a team though. Plenty to be encouraged about.

I watched it on TV and the ref got every single decision correct. You can use his past against him and you can say that he couldn't wait to give the red card/penalty but it's all irrelevant. It was probably the best refereeing performance of the season in terms of percentage of correct decisions.

How did he get the sending off correct to the letter of the law?

Was the tackle cynical or malicous?

Was it a certain goalscoring opporunity as Chamakh wouldn't have got a 2nd touch?

Have a look again.

<a class="postlink" href="http://vodpod.com/watch/4748325-dedryck-boyata-red-card-v-arsenal" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://vodpod.com/watch/4748325-dedryck ... -v-arsenal</a>

he's not getting to that ball to score
therefore its not a clear goal scoring opportunity

Iffy at worst and yet a team is effectively given a 3 point deduction as the punishment

thats way too much

compare that to oh so many genuine dirty calculated cynical tackles directly in a goal scoring position that we see and yet the net effect is the same or worse!

a 1-0 deficit inflicted via whatever refereeing mechanism and a booking then okay thats acceptable even if the decision is iffy and at least keep the game alive

yes he was guilty in terms of the letter of the law but the punishment does not fit the 'crime'

and anyway its because he didn't observe the letter of the law after that having shown us that he must, that makes Twattenburg a totally biased if not cheating twunt

biased biased biased

I don't agree with that penalty,it happen out side the penalty area that one should be free kick at the happenning point.

i hate klatenburg he seems to think 47,000 people came just to see him. why give a red card in the 1st 5mins just ruins the game.
a good ref would have booked him and gave him a serve warning. if smackhead or vidic did that foul i guarantee it would only be a yellow.

hope we dont get him again anytime soon.

Once it happened on my stream I basically thought, fuck....cause it's a stone cold red. It was from the jump. I'm not a Clattenberg fan, but he had a good game. That's just a fact. We made a couple stupid tackles and punished as the rules say we should have.

To say otherwise makes you look like a dumbass, honestly. They were all blatant.

Rules could be tweaked so the punishment fits the crime.

Could be a yellow and a penalty. Makes sense, doesn't it?

Ditto the 'cynical' foul to prevent a break away.

The ref should be able to say; you had two men back, no more than two back for the free kick, same for the number of attackers allowed ahead of the free kick, and everyone else must stand five yards behind the ball.

Or maybe, if there are less than four players back for a challenge designed to prevent a break away, the attacking team get a free kick on one of three predetermined spots outside the penalty area.

no it's not. he had a shocker & i'm not even including the red card for boyata or the penalty in that conclusion. how arsenal finished that game with 11 men is beyond me. fabregas, song & denilson should all have gone for multiple yellows but he failed to enforce the rules.

he even got the minor decisions wrong. for example in the 2nd half he rightly gave city a corner but when the linesman for some reason flagged for a goal kick he reversed his decision. that would have been unremarkable except 2 minutes later the same linesman correctly flagged for a city corner (being about 2 yards away) & clattenburg, who was much further away, overruled him. not a major deal in itself but just symptomatic of his routine crap decisions.

since the bolton game last season when he gifted bolton 3 goals & red carded bellamy for being fouled i've had no doubt that clattenburg is bent & he did nothing on sunday to change my mind.

Swings and roundabouts isn't it? We got the rub of the green against Newcastle and Blackpool, but not against Arsenal. Therefore, please choose one of the following:

1. End of Thread.

2. Discuss.

I thank you all....

That is what i was banging on about all day yesterday on this thread.

Rules are rules and you must go by the rule book. Again, it wasn't a red card.
