Bang out of order!! I was in the race when she broke the record in Chicago 'probably' would have beaten her if not for the drugs......and drink and 20 years of smoking... But that's not the point, I want my money back
Haha, sounds like you were on the wrong concoction.

You might move up a place though (if they kick her out).

I think it's the most obvious doping case we've ever had, her performance in Chicago was such an anomaly that she had to be doping. Journalists even questioned it post race and it got brought up in Kenyan Parliament.

Unfortunately masking agents are only 2 year bans which is ridiculous as it's masking a performance enhancer.

Lifetime bans are the only way forward for me, start setting an example.
The most obvious case of doping in athletics I remember prior to that was Ben Johnson when he obliterated the field running 9.79s in the 100m final at the 1988 Olympics.

That's basically the comparison that was drawn post race, that kind of obvious.

Much like Kratochvílová's 800m world record from 1983 that still stands and Koch's 400m from 1985, where athletes are still not getting close 40+ years later.

Koch deserves more respect, a fine dedicated athlete and an all round good bloke as well

Least surprising doping suspension ever:

It was pretty obvious she was at it.

Genuinely think they have to consider suspending Kenya from World Athletics now, or only allow Kenyan's with a solid biological passport to compete.

These athletes are robbing moments from clean athletes, it's fraud and deserves a harsher punishment.

Start suspending athletes for life.
Agree with all your comments pal.

I can tell you with 100% certainty she looked anything but a bloke when I got up close to her for an autograph back in the day. She definitely does deserve more respect. She was absolutely brilliant.

No way was she clean though. It was done through the state in East Germany, probably impossible to avoid even if any of them wanted to.

I’m not necessarily suggesting that. But a lot of people don’t factor in your second sentence. Those athletes were victims in some ways, unlike some of the athletes from other countries from back then or now. I certainly wouldn’t view the likes of Ben Johnson or other North American athletes in the same way.

I watched her over the years as a hero along with Daley, Ed Moses etc, growing up as an athlete myself. I have an emotional blind spot about it, because the sport in that era is so closely tied in with me growing up. I suspended any disbelief and admired how marvellous the likes of her and Marles Gohr were. It must have been just me, but I used to love it when the poor half of Germany did well!

And her record in Canberra from 1985 (which i think is still on YouTube) is a thing of wonder). She was a brilliant 200m runner too. I think the 82 Europeans in Athens was the first time I remember her from.

They were victims, and I can understand having an emotional attachment but at the end of the day they were cheating, and cheating clean athlete's out of glory.

One of my favourite record's is the rarely run women's 4x800m relay. In 1984, Russia A, and Russia B ran against each other in Moscow. Russia A, ran 7m50s, and Russia B ran 7m51s.

Eight athletes in the same relay race all averaged 1m57.5ish. That would put them all in and around world class 41 year's later.

Eight athletes from the same Country, without pacemakers, without running on today's faster tracks, without the shoes now used, and without the improvements in diet and training routines since then, seems legit lol.

Been at the UK champs today and a fantastic day. Some brilliant races, in particular the women’s 200m, men’s 1500, Hughes running 19.90 and Josh Kerr looking the step above everyone in the 5000. Took the kids and they loved it as well.

As much as I love Manchester, I think its better that they've moved it to Birmingham, bigger stadium, more can see it. Shame they didnt build an enclosed stadium to keep the wind out, probably too costly.

I actually enjoyed the women's 1500m, an absolute underdog; Sarah Calvert, storming to victory.

To be fair it was far from full and it wasn’t cheap which I think was reflected in the numbers there. They built a new stand along the home straight that we were in and that’s a really nice modern stand, but the rest of it is quite old and both ends very open and exposed. It’s a million times better than the Manchester stadium though and much more fitting for a championships.

It was a fantastic setup and excellent day and the kids got to meet all the athletes, get autographs and on the whole the athletes we met were class and so nice. Josh Kerr who I’ve always thought was really arrogant and a bit of an arse was class and gave my son his number and signed it, had a long chat with him about his athletics.
