It's kind of telling that the Bayern fans on this thread are defending the Bundesliga, but fans of any other German club think a lot differently.
That, coupled with the dominance that Bayern are enjoying, spells big trouble for that league.
The Bayern fans? The most German Bayern fans I have read on Wednesday somewhat celebrated...
The Schalke of Wednesday could have played Arsenal and won. And Arsenal could have played against Real and the result could just have been the same. Not a real surprise, or?
It's very disappointing to here that German fans were celebrating Schalke's disgrace. The Schalke of Wednesday would not have won against a Premiership fighting relegation let alone Arsenal. Nor is there anyway Arsenal would be beaten so heavily by Madrid and Arsenal are the most naive out of the English teams. Schalke played with no confidence and no heart. Ignoring the result, it was sad to see so many players hiding and approaching that game with no belief.
Do you think that matches of PSG or Real against Leverkusen or Schalke really tell the quality of the league... If they would have parked the bus the results would have been lower - but the teams would not get better overnight.
Good tactics are part of being better so yes if they had played more sensibly it would have made them a better team overnight. It's astounding how any team could go into a match planning to leave Ronaldo 1 on 1 with Matip. It's just suicidal and so unbelievably stupid.
The Schalke and Leverkusen match does tell a lot about the quality of the league and Schalke and Leverkusen (despite the draw) put up a similar gutless performances against Bayern.
Like said - sure Bayern is by far the best team in the Bundesliga - but they have been the recent 30 years. The difference between the Bayern of today and former Bayern teams is mainly that after the losses 2011/12 they really concentrate on every match. They barely loose against the minor teams - losses former teams would have had as they just did not have the same dedication and mentality. It does not have to do with the "poor" quality of the league. The EPL does not really get stronger if your team looses or draws against rank 10, 12 or 16 because your players do not take them serious, or?
Sorry Bayern's success does have to do with the gutless and weak performance in the league. There have only been a handful of games where teams have played Bayern with belief Gladbach (away), Dortmund, Hannover, Hertha Berlin and Suttgart. In virtually every other match the team has been beaten before they set out on the field.
Chelsea top of the league draw against West Brom not, because they don't take them seriously, but because West Brom fight to the end. When Stuttgart showed fight and determination with a young team they almost got a result.
The Premiership is not perfect and has many faults. For the last 6 years the standard of the top teams ie Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool and Arsenal have dropped dramatically. United and Chelsea just let their teams get old, Arsenal sold their team and Liverpool had bad owners/sold players/got old. Only City have really improved in the Premiership. Even the likes of Everton and Villa were weaker for a longer period.
Now though things have changed. City have finally assembled a squad approaching the United/Chelsea/Arsenal teams. Chelsea are investing and Arsenal finally can spend again. The future of the Premiership looks bright.
This is not so with the Bundesliga. The German teams have made their poor performances acceptable by repeatedly telling themselves that Bayern are the best team in the world and would dominate every other league. That is not true anymore. Bayern are not much better if at all better than Madrid, PSG, Barcelona and City. If these teams don't have 19 point leads then there is no reason Bayern should.
