I can’t help thinking she was driving an electric version and pressed the throttle instead of the brake.
That said, collision control should surely have kicked in when she came up to the fence.

Driving the new defender to do a school run, any news on the other children that were rushed to hospital?

I don’t think there’s any suggestion the driver was taking a child to school. It was well after school starting time.

One adult and one child still in a serious condition according to the news earlier anyway.

Yes you can turn it off or turn down the sensitivity.

The reality of this is a smaller, lighter and smarter choice of car and those two girls are probably still alive.

This is so tragic, but not an isolated incident. Many other people are killed because of these vehicles, the death rate for pedestrians hit by them is far higher than normal cars.

Perhaps we need additional driver raining and testing for large, heavy cars. Anything bigger than a Nissan Micra, or do we set the bar slightly higher?
