No, but Messi traditionally doesn't do well in the national team either. I think even Ronaldo had periods where he looked a completely different player too.

Messi has scored 35 goals in 82 internationals compared to 215 goals in 246 games for Barca.

Ronaldo has scored 39 goals in 104 internationals compared to 230 goals in 331 games for United and Real.

Van Persie has scored 35 goals in 76 internationals compared to 122 goals in 232 games for Arsenal and United.

Aguero has scored 18 goals in 45 internationals compared to 110 goals in 239 games for Atletico and City.

All four inferior for country than club.

Then you have...

David Healy has scored 36 goals in 94 games for Northern Ireland compared to 13 goals in 98 games for Fulham/Sunderland/Ipswich/Doncaster/Bury.

Judging a player on international football is a bit like judging a player on a pre-season friendly... it's a completely different environment really, you aren't around the players every week and that's why so many international teams don't seem to play with the same coherency as clubs.

Huntelaar has a better goals-to-games rate for Holland than Van Persie. Higuain has a better goals-to-games rate for Argentina than Messi. I think I know which of those choices people would rather have in their club side...

Based on everything, do you think that Cavani is worth what Napoli is asking ?

Exactly.

Some players are just better for club than country and some are better than country tha their clubs.

Players are also only with their national sides for an average of a few weeks of a year whilst with their clubs they are with them pretty much every day minus the Summer, bonding issues can be an issue.

Judging Cavani solely on his Uruguay performance last night is harsh and unfair in my opinion.

He isn't worth he fee asked of him but is that is not his fault, the guy is a top class forward and would walk into any club team in the world if he could.

Not really and I don't think anyone is willing to pay the full fee. But there seems to be growing pressure on Napoli to compromise and the player seems to want a move, so it's possible he'll go for a more reasonable price (and if Napoli don't budge they face having an unhappy player). £30million + Dzeko would be a good deal IMO. People on here saying Dzeko is as good as Cavani... he's really not. Dzeko is getting the De Jong treatment on Bluemoon right now... every new day since he last played a game for City he becomes a better player. He's a good player but if he was in the elite group teams would be queuing up for him since he could be bought for £20m-£25m.

The biggest problem with Dzeko is his pay, where other teams are not willing to match what's city paying. I think teams will pay for him 20-25 which is a fair value if he takes a pay-cut. On top of that other teams know of City's striker situation as well and are trying to get players for peanuts.
Seems like Napoli is waiting for City to pay the full amount, then to turn around and get Dzeko for peanuts.

Ciro Venerato (RAI): "From London comes significant confirmation of an imminent appointment between Chelsea and Napoli

We'll see if at this meeting Chelsea will want to put a technical counterpart as Napoli prefers Manchester City offer with Dzeko.

Napoli would like Manchester City offer with Dzeko for Cavani but it has yet to convince the player to come to Italy."

agreed.

£34m + edin is equal €40m + edin, still expensive but i would deal at that.
