Club Badge (merged)

When the time comes that we are not as successful as we are currently that quote will bite us on the arruss.
I was thinking about that being used against us too:
a) By the usual moaners when we have an off game and lose, I can see it becoming their punchline "Fight to the end??? Could have fooled me!"
b) By the anti-city media/tv pundits...

I'd be surprised if they did
Look at our current motto "pride in battle" and then cast your mind back to some of the shameful performances since 97, an example being Blackburn in the FA cup quarter

I've taken part in the online consultation and suggested that we should have a modern take of the 1930's onward badge, ship, gold stripes on maroon background, shield, circle

I'm 52 and have seen four badges starting with the gold stripes on maroon, the COA, rose and current
I've always detested our current badge, or should I say the eagle, stars and motto

If the badge in 97 had been changed just to the middle bit, shield, ship, stripes and MCFC I don't think anyone would be arsed about a change

I'll be happy with that badge also. Just my opinion that the eagle on it is part of our rise and winning leagues, 50 years time a young city fan wonders why we got the eagle on badge can look it up and see where we were and how we came through the leagues with the Eagle as our main badge.

Still my favourite. I keep mine in my studs box but it's getting a little rusty now.

THIS

Banana rulez, fook roses, bees & crosses, adidas, yachts and bosses. Most likely if there's a connection between the Mancs histreeh and football, this is it.

Bird watchers might add an eagle in gold and a banana skin, same colours and text around.

sorry didnt put my point across very well , we are part of the most forward thinking club in world football i for one wont be suprised if the new badge is nothing like any of the old ones or the present one for that matter , a smattering of respect to our history, but a huge eye on the future will be the new badge ,

I respect your view mate, and I agree we are a forward thinking club.

My personal view is that there was no demand for change from the fans in 1997. We were all very happy with what we had at the time, and the 1930s badge that had come before. Sure, at some point it could have done with a bit of an update in design to remain relevant.

Other than City, I'd say The Shite, Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Spurs, and Everton are probably the 7 biggest clubs in England. They've all had updated designs of their badge in the last 15 years. But all of them are completely recognisable as the same core design that those clubs had as far back as the 1970s.

Only City's has drastically changed and incorporated a load of new symbols that previously had no relevance to the club - eagle, stars, latin etc.

In my view the eagle and the stars were foisted upon us with no consultation and no demand for them from the fans.

I understand the reason we had to change (copyright), but if those reasons are no longer an issue, why shouldn't we have an updated version of the previous badges that were so popular? Is City's history and identity not as important as those other 7 clubs? It certainly is to me.

I appreciate we are a forward thinking club, but one of the reasons the Premier League and it's clubs are so popular is because of the 100 plus year history. The badge should respect and represent that history.

It's possible to be modern, forward thinking, but still respect and represent the history of the club. The best representation I have seen of that is @GeekinGav 's designs below.

I strongly believe that if we had updated to this design in 1997, there would be absolutely no appetite to change the badge now.

I'm a rose fan but would be happy with any of those. If the eagle stays I'll be gutted. But i'll respect the majority view or what the club decide.

Same for me mate. If over 50% of people on the questionnaire vote to keep the eagle then I'll respect that. If over 50% vote for roundel, then my preference would be the 3 rivers, but I'd happily accept the rose similar to the one below if that had more votes.

This is my absolute worst fear.

I can understand some people want to keep the eagle, but can anyone seriously say they think this looks better than the current badge?

If the majority want to keep the eagle, I totally respect that, and I'd be happy to stick with the current badge.

I just really hope the club don't misinterpret the data. If there is a high percentage who want the roundel, and a high percentage who want the eagle, it doesn't mean anyone wants them squished together in a fudge like this.

If the eagle stays, so be it. But please lord don't try and squash it in to a round badge. It just doesn't work.

What ever the badge is going to be it will grow on you I'd rether have the eagle on the badge but if it ain't on I won't be on here moaning about.

I'd be more than happy with them, and iv been a fan and regular match goer from the early 80s so was brought up with the round badge.

All my pin badges are round and iv never really took to the eagle in its current form, but with the talk of getting rid of it has made me think I'd rather not go backwards to the old and kinda got used to the new so the simplistic thing would be to merge the two... Can't see it happening though and think the club may already have a idea of what they want, if not one already to roll out.

There has been a whole generation who have grown up with only ever knowing the new eagle badge and will have to put up with What ever comes next longer then most who want to go back to the old round so maybe they should be listened to and not dismissed as jcls.

A nod to the past with the round the rivers and shield but with a foot in the here and now with the eagle in the round would be perfect for me but I'm guessing we will get something that most wouldn't have voted for given the choice, and I'd be surprised if we get 2/3 to chose from, I'm guessing they will just roll out there design and we will suck it up...

The stylised eagle in blue is the one, looks ten-fold better and offers the outlineing to a roundel framework....in Sky blue...anybody asks just tell em it fell in a bucket of paint.

Be careful what you wish for!

I for one was certain that this badge consultation was a gift from God; as time has progressed however I can't but help think that we are lifting the lid on Pandora's Box!

I'm now of the opinion that if it ain't broken then don't fix it. We've globalised, expanded and triumphed with this current badge and other that self gratification for many older fans ( and I am one) I'm not sure what true benefit can be achieved by changing it.

its like driving miss daisy,on this forum sometimes,"main rd this main rd that, bring back bananas, the badge of my youth ,lancashire red roses," a whole generation have grown up with the current badge, the average 20 year old only knows the present badge ,if they are the 51% majority so be it ,
What? A WHOLE generation? Every 20 year old wants the present badge? What are they then, the Hitler Youth? Surely there are those who want to keep the current one
and those that want a change? Even I know a 20 year old who wants the old rose badge back!
