Marking the anniversary of lockdown over here....

I was just stating it as a fact. Garden visits and pub gardens will be allowed in the next few weeks - and very few will abide by social distancing measures and there will be house parties galore.

I’m beyond caring to report or look down on people for whatever behaviour now as it’s just not worth stressing over but I am weary of going back into another lockdown despite the success of our vaccine rollout.

Greater Manchester Summary

Cases 376 - down 47 on yesterday and versus 414 last week.

This is 56.3% of the NW total of 668 - the second highest GM has ever been.

Here are how the ten boroughs did. Some ups and downs today.


Manchester top as usual with 82 - down 8 but up from 66 last week so Pop will rise again

Bolton second at 45 - down 2 but down 13 wk to wk so Pop will fall.

Oldham is joint second on 45 - down 6 but level with last week.

Wigan are in fourth at 44. - but that is well down on 56 last week so a good fall in Pop score.

Rochdale just 1 behind on 43 - which is up 10 day to day but up even more - 12 - wk to week.

Salford clocks in at 33 - up 1 on yesterday and yet down 10 wk to wk so will see Pop score fall.

Tameside is next on 30 - big drop of 18 on the day and 16 wk to wk so Pop will come down here also.

Stockport on 20 down 11 on the day and 10 wk to wk another with a good day today and a pop fall. Joint lowest daily Pop Score too with Trafford -up just 6 and as a result avoiding the 7000 club for just one more day on 6997.

Bury comes 1 less at 19 - down 2 on yesterday and a whopping 16 wk to wk will benefit the weekly pop.

And Trafford has the lowest numbers again on 15 - down from 29 and down a little from 18 last week.

Headline:

UK patients fall more slowly than of late but mid 4000s. The Yorkshire jump up to more than last week seems an anomaly to be explained. Possibly an audit. UK ventilators drop to under 600 - down over 3400 in 9 weeks. And Numbers have hit a bit of stall. We need to see where this goes next week.

UK total:


Patients 4411 - it was 39, 248 at the peak on 18 Jan - (fall of 34, 837 in 68 days) :- lowest since 10 October

Ventilators 593 it was 4077 at the peak on 24 Jan - (fall of 3484 in 62 days) : lowest since 14 October


England only:-


ADMISSIONS:-

288 Covid admissions (24 March) - following 277, 295, 294, 279, 287, 283, 351 in the week before.

These seem to have flattened off too



PATIENTS:-

Patients down 36 in day to 3676 v 4589 last week :- lowest since 11 October.

Peak was 34, 336 on 18 Jan (fall 30, 660 in 68 days)

Ventilators: Down in day 22 to 537 v 710 last week :- lowest since 19 October

Peak was 3736 on 24 Jan (fall 3199 in 62 days)

As ever with Pop scores going up is bad, going down good - the higher the number the better or worse depending on direction moving. The Pop Score is total cases in past week versus 100,000 POPulation to even out the comparison versus size and expected cases based on numbers living there.





Tameside 125 / 110 / UP 15 Testing positive 7.9%

Oldham 120 / 97 UP 23 Testing positive 9.5%

Rochdale 120 / 89 / UP 31 Testing positive 9.4%

Bolton 113 / 102/ UP 11 Testing positive 8.8%

Manchester 103 / 82 / UP 21 Testing positive 9.4%

Wigan 101 / 98 / UP 3 Testing positive 8.7%

Salford 87 / 112/ down 25 Testing positive 8.8%

Salford still going well. Bury has levelled off again, Stockport almost back to falling. Others slowly readjusting but Rochdale, Manchester and Oldham still up quite a bit.

Trafford is too but starting to stabilise and has the advantage of being very low numbers anyway.

Yorkshire does stand out. Even before schools returned cases across the East Midlands into South Yorkshire were edging up, against the trend elsewhere.

Whereas the South saw cases rise and fall rapidly, here in Sheffield we seem to have been seeing a consistent 100 cases a day since the start of the year (120 per 100,000). No significant growth, no decline. Six deaths in the last week isn't much above average, either.

Perhaps it's as simple as the more virulent variant finally reaching Yorkshire, as I can honestly say that people here seem to take Covid precautions as seriously as anywhere I've been in the last year.

When you allow garden gatherings and pub gardens to open, it’s one massive booze fest - indoor mixing is inevitable- next few weeks is a massive test on the vaccine outcome

This is interesting, EU, UK and US previously against this move, but if the US breaks ranks that would be significant.

This is a large reason why many EU/US companies do not seek approval in China. Can't see it happening as it would set an awful example. Patent protection and exclusivity is the only offset to the exorbitant development costs.

Covid floored me and three months on I struggle to lift a bag of shopping upstairs.
